I found a log that said a bunch of junk (I don't speak fluent techie, sorry) and then something about whereas socket is not open. I am not sure what the heck that meant, anyone else got a better clue than me?
I'm back online(ish) after a reinstall, a 2Gb 'patch' in several chunks, some tinkering with *.dll files and some wonderful 28K ping that was caused by multiple (28??) versions of a 5 meg 'client0##.txt' file being spawned. This is what worked for me...
The auto-recover, auto-update, auto-patch feature seems to be causing the problem. I had to run this through three or four times but eventually it worked.
Start the game, get a run-time error when the loading bar is on the fifth box. Game crashes.
Run 'ryzom_recover'.
Start the game again, get 'checksums do not correspond' error. Game 'fixes' it and relaunches.
Wait for it to relaunch again. If you can get to the character selection screen, quit out of the game (yes, I know, just quit. If you keep going, you'll just get another run-time error).
Start it again and log in.
On about the fifth repeat of that, it worked and now I can log in okay 90% of the time.
Edit: game crashed again tonight and started with run time errors again. Repeated the above process, logged in fine and played without a hitch.
In addition, some of the *.dll files got corrupted in the patch. I copied them over from a backup copy (and whoa... open beta deja vu there... hmmm) and they worked fine. SOL if you don't have a backup. :/
Aside from the memory leak and the crashes 50% of the time that I enter my apartment (woo! free trip to Fyros) I can mostly run the game again. Don't ask me. I have no idea.
Tin.
