Ok first of I tried giving the game a higher priority, it did not help at all.
The suggestion from the ingame advice was following.
Try newer/older gfx drivers (I have been through quite a few by now no luck).
Try turning of sound (I have played without sound for weeks now no luck).
Try lower the gfx settings (I have reduced them to near minimum).
All this along with a bundle of other stuff, having tried forth and back. Without any luck. The game started crashing after the previous patch. A point where I had not change other settings on the computer, which makes me quite certain something was changed on their side. (Perhaps some kind of performance tweak, that unfortunatly conflict with my hardware setup, and a few others from what I can see on this board.)
During my last session with the in game tech support, after stating I had tried each and every suggestion given. I were told my GFX card is several generations outdated, it is the cause of the problem, and nothing more could be done.
BUT if I go to their homepage and check the minimum requirements, it is a GF4 with 128Mb of ram.
Could someone refresh me and tell me what a nVidia Ti4200 is for a type of card, and why it should matter it is not the newest version, when it IS within the supported types of gfx cards required.
...
All that said, unlike other games (I shall remain nameless). The tech support here gave me suggestions that might help on the problem, but did not fix the situation, and the suggestions seemed to be in the right direction.
(Unlike previous experiences with other companies, where being told that they needed a traceroute because when I exited the game the regulair way, it reset my desktop settings, something that occoured to all danish instalations of XP not just mine. And afterwards telling me it is my problem not theirs, as they support the game, not my desktop.)
...
Anyway if you have additional suggestions of what might help me fix the problem do tell, I am all ears. If a solution can not be found before my current month runs out, I guess it is goodbye, at least untill I get a new machine that will not crash. As said previous, I love the crafting/harvesting in this game, but I do hate crashing every 30 minutes, losing all waypoints made in that time, and my arrangement of icons. Then having to use several minutes to reboot the comp, and load the game again.
Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
My computer is similarish to yours and here are a few things that will make Ryzom crash for me (note: normally I don't get any crashes at all!):
1.) Some other games and applications load dll's that seem to destroy ryzom's ability to run (i.e. Planetside). Only thing that seems to clear it is reboot.
2.) Background auto-updates (i.e. Norton Anti-Virus) - mind you, these will also mess up pretty much anything else I'm running if they kick-off. (Check for bacground processes before playing).
3.) Periphral-mania - clicking my mouse centre button with mouse-wheel right/left, whilst strafing with the strategic commander, etc, etc can cause the game to freeze and/or crash. I suspect though this is mainly down to conflicts in DirectX rather than Ryzom (To test - disconnect any superfluous peripherals and reboot before playing).
4.) Sick hard-drive - My hard-drive got messed up from a fried power supply once. Thing was, the drive was smart enough to respond to timeouts and self-correct, etc to the extent that it was several weeks before I realised it was pooched. (Run disk utilities to check you hard drives - full scan overnight!).
5.) My ISP - with intermittant "brown-outs" on my ADSL connection causing synchronisation errors (You didn't say, or I missed it, what type of crash you get. Lock up? Game/machine crash? Disconnected? Etc. The classic symptom of this was the "Network connection" window popping up). Note that my kids used to be able to cause a similar problem by hogging bandwidth on my home network/internet connection (check if your housemate has Kazaar running!)
6.) Something else.
There has got to be something "different" about you set-up. The vaste majority can run the game just fine without crashes.
This isn't your "fault" or anything like that - but does suggest where and how to look. Try turning off unnecessary background processes. Try removing all peripherals beyond the keyboard/mouse. If you have a USB keyboard/mouse, try replacing them with PS2 connected ones (may have to borrow them from somewhere).
Try removing one of those memory stcks and running the game on 512 MB (if it crashes faster you have a memory error on your hands!). POST will not always detect a bad memory stick and won't detect problems due to memory imbalances at all!
If you reduce the system to "bare bones" and the crashes stop - then one of these items you removed/turned off is the source of the problem (tedious to do this though with SoR normally carshing after 30 mins!).
Hope this helps! I'd guess that with the tech support guys help, you will have pretty much exhausted the driver/software/OS avenues of investigation, so maybe it's time to look at the hardware.
Best of luck!

* Miranda IM for ICQ/MSN (has also crashed when it was not running)
* EZ AV (From my experience it has not interfered with other programmes, and I refuse to run my comp without AV)
* EZ Firewall (Which basicly is ZoneAlarm)
* TS Server (A must as I chat with RL friends, and it does not interfer with other programmes so I assume it is safe, and I crash even if not running it)
* TS Client (A must as I chat with RL friends, and it does not interfer with other programmes so I assume it is safe, and I crash even if not running it)
* Winamp 5.05 (I know should get it updated, but doubt it is the case. I am streaming online radio, so I cannot use the in game player)
2) All autoupdates has been turned off, I prefer to know when my programmes contact the net ... that said I do utilize the net to stream radio, and to talk over TS. But even with those two turned off I have still crashed.
3) I do use the Middle mouse key on my Trackman Wheel for TS (USB). I could try placing the converter on it for the (PS2, if I recall the right name). Keyboard is (PS2)
4) I have not tested for this, since I got the problems, but find it unlikely as other games run on the same HD is not causing issues. (Such as Doom3).
5) My connection is stable, except a minor issue an afternoon, which was fixed quite fast. So I rule it out. As for the crash type, it is accesing restricted memory that is the problem. either I get the crash report to mail in setting, or I get a BSoD. (Blue Screen of Death)
6) Good category, most likely the cause of the problem, thanks for trying to give options. I feel I have most of the bases covered of the mentioned, beside from trying to switch my Trackball to PS2 via the converter. (Though I fail to see why it should be required), and that my HD/Memory might be on the fritz.
Again as I do not experience the problems in other games, and I hate messing with my hardware if I can avoid it. Then there is unfortunatly not much I am willing to test of the above suggestions. A scan of the HD (though checked recently) is something I might try, as is if any of you know a good programme to test the memory with.
Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
Ok that's enough for me!
I cancelled my account, and honestly I'm so mad at the moment that it's hard for me not to say anything very rude.
You can guess: my game crashes since patch 25 (the one before the last). Before it Ryzom ran rock steady, but since it was crashing randomly. Sometimes it lasted for an hour or so, another time it crashed right after logging in. Mostly it crashed 4-6 times in a row, than half an hour play, crash. I tried everything, but nothing could help. But I endured all this 'cos I really love the game, and prayed for a patch which would correct this problem. I thought that this was inevitable, 'cos I'm not the only one with this problem. And than came the patch yesterday. I reinstalled my computer(!), 'cos I wanted to go for sure, even installed SP2. And what happens? Crash after crash!!! After 10 crashes and rebooting i gave up. This is no fun anymore. And so I cancelled my account. I won't pay for something this buggy, even if I like everything else. I really forgave everything to Nevrax, but this is really unbearable!
I'll be looking back every now and than, and if they correct this problem, I may consider reactivating my account.
So Nevrax if you read this please please don't be stupid and correct at least the bugs! I could accept paying for something not totally complete, but this is unacceptable!
All you in Aty take care! I love you all! Will be missing you very much...

I share your sentiment there, I am glad to know that I am not the only one who experienced the same problems, and that they started occouring at the same patch.tommedve wrote:Ok that's enough for me!

I truly love the game, but not enough to accept the crashing every 30 minutes, half of the times getting a BSOD.
Btw, do you have any hardware simularities with mine, then perhaps it can help locate the bug if any matches are present.
Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
Well I looked at your config and it has not too many things in common with mine:
Win XP SP2
Asrock K7S8X
AMD Duron 1,8
512 MB Ram
Inno3D Geforce 3 Ti 200
Built in CMedia Sound Card
So unless Ryzom doesn't like GeForce ("The way it's ment to be played", remenber ) or Win XP (the most common OS), I have no clue what is causing the crash.
And even if I found out, I would say: that's not my problem! Hey Nevrax is PAID to correct theese bugs, not me! THEY should search for a solution all night not someone who purchased the game.
Hell, I'm so pissed off! Realy guys, I always hated thoose "unregistered guests" who flamed the game, but now I'm starting to understand them...

try this also and tell me if you get crashes
Click start menu on xp -> run -> type msconfig ->enter
within the boot ini tab click advanced options then make sure the tick box for the command line /maxmem is ticked and try reducing to 512mb ram, reboot and start ryzom and run ryzom till u get first crash only the first crash not wether its laggy in game etc.
and what type of ram are you using, just to let you know i had 1gb of ddr400 had teh exact same probs i done the above the game ran ok little laggy but no crashes. I removed one block of 512 and ran the game crashes and so then swopped the blocks over so no crahses then i went out bought new stick of 512 and now im flying like a pink elephant )))).

DDR400 ram is known to be a bit dodgy with Ryzom; if you have it and constantly get problems, try downgrading to the "normal" stuff... it has worked for someone who crashed every 5minsdesolis wrote:and what type of ram are you using, just to let you know i had 1gb of ddr400 had teh exact same probs i done the above the game ran ok little laggy but no crashes. Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
Well I have 2 256MB 266 Mhz Samsung modules, so this doesn't sound like a problem. I try the /maxmem method though...
Re: Is this game supposed to crash every 30 minutes?
I have had similar problem. Game just stopped ( wait info ) and diddnt want to start again. I have fast internet connection- 1Gb, but I have 2 comps in network on it. When I connect my comp directly- without the network, all problems gone. Funny thing is that game stopped even if other comp was swiched of !?. If you have more than one comp in netwerk try this one- it has worked for me. Greatings and saliutations.rihze wrote:I am getting very tired of this, the last 5 days the game has crashed every 30 minutes or so, and a third of the time I get a BSOD on top of it.
My drivers is up to date, and my computer more then meet the requirements.
Windows XP, SP2.
2Ghz P4 @ 2666 (And yes it is running stable, and has for 1-2 years now).
1 GB ram
SB Audigy (Not that it should matter as I turned of the sound to see if it helped against the crashes.)
Geforce 4, Ti4200
The game keeps accessing restricted memory, at random intervals, it caused me to die about 5 times so far, cost me dusins of waypoints, because they are not saved during gameplay. And generally pissing me of, having to reboot the computer constantly.
Anyone who got a clue on what might cause it. As I can see from the crash logs, it is totally random the causes of the crashes. No pattern, nothing, except the game engine for some reason does not appear able to keep within its alloted memory. This is really getting to me.
It was not so, at the start of the free beta, but started at the end of it, I stupid as I was, thought it was temporary, instead I feel suckered to cough over 25 Euro for something I cannot use.
What the hell am I doing wrong?
