I really dont understand why unregistered ex-player who hated the game are still posting on the Ryzom board, they must be into SM or something...
Heres for them : I pull out my giant Trollboy Whip and use all my strengh to whip your arse and "accidentaly" whip your balls at the same time.
Back to the subject :
Im having fun, dont worry we arent 1 million but who said bigger = better ? Im having fun grouping and exploring Atys, you do have to be a bit of a soloer for harvesting/crafting but wich game isnt that way ?( + harvesting can be done in group) and you can always chat in general or guild chat while doing so.
Give Ryzom a try if :
You love good original story and you want to participate in the evolution of the story.
You want live event. They have started, we had one 2 weeks ago, one on the last weekend and one is announced for the next weekend. Event are not soloable...
You love exploring new and rich environment
You dont want to be limited by a class
You want a game that is difficult enough while still user friendly (the interface is very well done). The manual is not very good but dont be shy and ask your question on the chat, the community is very friendly and helpfull.
You are bored of traditionnal mmorpgs
You want one of the best community in mmorpg
You want a PvE and PvP game. Theres a PvP event announced on the main board, group PvP will be in soon, faction PvP and Arena too. Named Mobs are waiting for you.
You want to defend the land of Atys from Invasion. Invasion are groups of mobs (Kittins) who attack outpost or citys.
You want a rich and realistic crafting/harvesting/loot system (no "phat loot", every mats used in crafting have their own stats)
You want REALLY awsome graphics
how would you sell it to me?
Re: how would you sell it to me?
You cant compare the graphics of a FPS with the graphics of a mmorpg. A persistent world with the lvl of details present in a FPS would need all the latest hardware and a lot of RAM. Look at EQ2, they kept the zones to be able to use better graphics. Anyway if you compare mmorpg with mmorpg, Ryzom do have awsome graphics.Unregistered wrote:I thought Far Cry had really awesome graphics. This game was ok, nothing spectacular because it is all just textures...nothing to do but look at pretty animals and scenery and gleen bones...

Re: how would you sell it to me?
just a small point @ the gfx: EQ2 has the better engine, SOR uses it's engine better, that's why some people think EQ2 has better gfx, when they only mean it shows prettier things, and some think SOR has better gfx when they in reality mean the graphical design

Re: how would you sell it to me?
it has content, only it's not much, also the quests are near, as they can already be tested on the atsUnregistered wrote:Of course SoR has no engine issues ATM. SoR has no content, low population and does not run in fullscreen with full focus. Not an oversight other game codewriters in the same genre have allowed.
low population compared to other games, but enough to go around, when i play i always have at the very least one other blue dot on the 125 radar
runs in complete fullscreen for me
they had the choice of makin it zone, or using MUCH cpu power, that heat you get is not from drawing pretties, but from keeping a whole continent in ram and managing 100+ entities on your screen, whenever you move aroundUnregistered wrote:SoR engine causes undue heatstress on AMD CPU's - my temp increase with SoR is exorbitant compared to EQ1, WoW or Farcry. Fans 2 and 3 are burning full RPM when SoR was running. I never got both up to max in Farcry. I do not care to hear another "But Ryzom is not the same genre as Farcry" phooey either. 3d rendering is 3d rendering. Memory handling and texture sampling do not care whether you have an RPG or a FPS. They do what they are coded to do and SoR falls way short in that department.

Re: how would you sell it to me?
Heres my comp stats :
AMD Athlon XP 2000+
1G Ram ( I was running with 512Meg RAM untill 2 weeks ago, i started playing ryzom in the open beta)
MSI KT333 mainboard
Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 256meg Ram ( I was running a Geforce 4 mx 460 untill 2 weeks ago, i started playing ryzom in the open beta)
I changed my cpu fan to a blower and modified my case for better air circulation a month after i got my PC, AMD's always run hot, i had heat problems when running huge simulation in Matlab and Orcad PSpice (electronic CAD) before installing the blower and its now running around 40-50 C, it doesnt rise when I play Ryzom and it wasnt over heating when I had my old MX460 and 512 Meg Ram.
For the same quality of graphics a FPS (or any action game) will use a lot less ressources then a persistent world. Content as no effect on needed system resources.
