New way of obtaining the ATS client...

-> make a copy of your ryzom folder
-> unzip the .bat in your new ryzom folder
-> double click on 'convert_client_for_ryzom_ATS.bat' in your new ryzom folder
-> let the bat do his things
-> double click on ryzom exe in the new folder
-> enter login and password
-> choose ATS
-> patch

Eeek, nm!

The ryzom folder is 5 gig. Didn't know you would need all of it to do the ATS thing.

Guess I am gonna be the rotten egg.

Cerest, since you are watching this post closely, I am more than certain you will see this and answer this question. Am I right to assume this test server is like the test server on EQ...a seperate server...with NEW...different characters? I am hoping so, I have grown attached to the NA server, and don't WANT to pack up and move out. I just want to continue the beta legacy of seeking out bugs and helping the devs to find and fix stuff.

I am an explorer player type, seek discover, and so forth. So finding bugs, exploits and stuff BEFORE they hit the main servers...well...it is very much like buying a new game and exploring. It keeps the game fresh and breathing to me.

And Cerest...thanks for being the greatest forums mod/gm around. Civil conversation AND info, on a forum, who would believe it! And more amazing...a game GM with a sense of Humor...GM union representatives are bound to catch wind of this soon. *smirk* *wink* *hug*

Thanks for the kudos. You are correct in believing that there will be new characters on the ATS and that it is a completely seperate server. It is esentially a testing ground for the next patches. It is NOT a play server and is subject to all the fun things that go with testing (i.e. occasional wipes, bugs, etc.). BUT, you get to try out the new features before the general player base. YOU get to make sure it's running correctly before it gets released. Very beta-chic :)

hrm, so new characters... does that mean if we want to test, we've gotta raise up another character? if that's the case... no help from Albert! he's busy grinding heavy armor.

if you plan on giving everyone some levels to fool around with... Albert can take a break :)

Well, at least when testing patch one on the ATS, the player database was transfered there. So you could test the patch with your normal char (or a new one, of course)(no progress made on the ATS was transfered back to your main char of course).
So probably they will do the same again.

Thanks for the reply Cerest. I figured that wipes would happen from time to time. I have played on EQ's test server as well. And from time to time levels were given, items were given, and the Dev giveth, the Dev taketh away.

So for those that MUST have continuity...don't do the test servers...on ANY game...ever, the stress just might crush you. But for those of you that like NEWness, and excitement, and can take disappointment and confusion, and more than a little disorder...Testing just might be your cup of tea.

Agreed, I can't tell you how many times I was told that it WOULD be fixed and duely submitted my username to various CSRs, water under the bridge at this point though.

Unless there is an organized level testing to be done (like we did during the FBT in Fyros) with players being boosted to test different level ranges, I see the ATS as nothing more than a waste of my precious playing time as there cannot be any effective testing grinding players from level to level nor testing new plot devices due to the simple fact that neither happens quickly in the world of Ryzom. Levels take effort and time to achieve, plots lines take time to explore and, to date, feed back from the ATS players has been largely ignored until AFTER the patches have been applied to the main server.

That being the case, if there is an *official* and well organized testing to be done, I'll gladly donate my subscribed playing time to testing Nevrax's product; otherwise, I'll see you on Windermeer.

What sort of confirmations are people getting to the application? I had to try several times as the application had my old password on it. I haven't received any official email since the last newsletter and I never received the 'bring a friend' email so I don't know if my Ryzom email is working. Are people receiving emails or can we just do the install and log in?

Thanks,
Tin.

I much in agreement with Gralen in this matter. My ATS character is old, and far outdated by my current character on the general server. This would not really be a problem if there were more people on the ATS. However I have yet to find any other characters in any of the regions my ATS character has access to. This makes it impossible to test/provide feedback on any pvp changes. It also makes it nigh on impossible to access other regions without a team to do so, and only a lowly old much dis-used character to attempt the crossing and find some company to test pvp.

The only changes I have been able to test thus far have been quest changes with the Barman/Intendants, although I have not been able to provide any feedback through the ATS forums as yet... as my ability to post has been removed since acceptance to the ATS.

I wonder if this post will actually come through? That would be a pleasant surprise.
