First - if this is your first MMORPG, how can you say it is hard?
No, Ryzom is not hard. Ryzom is a joke with a lack of high level content so far. Four weeks and people have broken the level 200 barrier, 180 if you want melee fight. Nothing to do for them, no challenge. At level 110 we beat the toughest mobs the game had to offer. Unfortunately there is no reward for that so it is rather pointless. We made it around the world, visited every place there is to visit.
If you want hard try Everquest and lead a guild to the end of the plane of Time. Best game if you like coordination, strategic planning and encounters where a single mistake by 1 person kills 50 others in your raid.
No need to be rude. She clearly meant that the game is hard after the patches. Before the patches it was ridiculously easy.
However, if you think all there was or will be to do was level up and hit the biggest mob then I think you miss the point of what this game is supposed to be about. It remains to be seen whether they will deliver that vision, but there is meant to be and hopefully will be a lot more to do that get to 250 in a few areas and kill everything you can find.

Like...what rewards? What is there the game has to offer? Please enlighten me. Killing the same stupid mobs over and over and over for ... well, what for exactly?
I have played after the patch, I have gained another 20 levels. Still pointless.

What rewards? Oh, how about the knowledge and satisfaction that I can move pretty much freely about the Yrkanis area, not in the middle of the gingo spawn spot, but with care, just about anywhere else. Or, the knowledge that I am able to fight mobs and win at level 40 something are fully capable of killing me in just a few hits. Or maybe that I have learned how to select my targets in such a way that I have a very good chance of surviving.
For me, these games are never about just killing mobs, if they were I would not play one for more than a few weeks because I get bored very easily with repetitive actions done for no reason. So if I am going to stick with the grind, and it is a grind in Ryzom, EQ, WoW, Lineage 2, or any of the rest, it will be because I have devised my own forms of entertainment, my own satisfaction, and my own gratification.
Also, I am a huge fan of role play, so the grind is never all there is in a game such as this. If there is role play I can overlook a lot of deficiencies in other areas.

Yes, indeed, I am missing what the game is about. Since none of it seems to be in the actual game.

Um.... Snap?
Yeah, I noticed that a suspicious amount of content listed both on the box and in the manual is not actually in the game.

Welcome to the for-pay Beta.

And the really interesting thing about that is, of the games I have played from beta or from the first day of retail, EQ, SWG, Lineage 2 and CoH, the same comment was made about all of them, possibly excepting CoH. There I do not recall for certain, so I will say no to that one.

Oh, and as to those talking about difficulty- of course, it all depends on what you do.
I'm out and around Trykerland at level 32. It's pretty difficult to get involved with them larger cloppers and stay alive, at my level. But I'm working on finding out what mobs I can reliably beat.
Of course, if I were *reasonable*, I could probably just wander around killing vigorous kipees, but I do love a challenge.
Next stop- bounty beaches to see if the art of sneaking is indeed no longer in use.

EQ actually had a good deal of quests at launch. I played on Quellious from launch day and I always seemed to have a lot of quests to do if I wanted to.
I have to admit that the "Hail" system for talking to NPC's probably confused alot of players who couldn't figure out how to get the quests... but they were there.
Plus the rewards were pretty nice on general. Some were crappy, but atleast you could get Faction/Money/Exp/Item. Right now in Ryzom you can get Money/Faction.
And faction only seems to affect if people will sell/train you in other cities in this game.
Frankly, the mission system in Ryzom isn't anything to write home about.
I do agree (atleast I think you are saying this) that CoH has a great mission system. The Story arcs are excellent fun and I even made a habit of collecting souvenirs even though they didn't give you any bonuses or anything... just so I could brag to my friends, "Yeah I have *32* souvenirs now guys..."
I also liked taking screenshots of the arch villans.
o.O

No, actually CoH was the smoothest transistion from beta to live that I've actually experienced. The worst? AO. Hands down.
