I can empathize with you. I did the exact same thing. The sad part is that the community of the game I pre-ordered tends to either replulse me or terrify me depending on the time of day and nature of the thread I'm reading. The community here, with a few rare exceptions, has been absolutely fantastic. This is easily the most level-headed, mature group of people I've ever had the pleasure to share virtual space with. Regrettably, they're not enough to turn an unpleasant gameplay experience into a happy one. I'm still hoping Nevrax can pull a rabbit out of their hat before it's time for me to go. If not, I'll have to start learning to cope with Sponge Bob's merry band of dewdy-heads in a product whose game mechanics are more fun to play. *sob* C'mon, Nevrax, let's see that rabbit!

Jenuviel, I'm pretty confident you will see that rabbit. Nevrax is nothing if not responsive to its community.
Granted, they made a huge mistake with patch 1, but they are fixing it. I'm sure that things will be back to normal, and better tan pre-patch 1 pretty soon.

I've been in WoW closed beta since May.
Stopped playing it about six weeks ago.
WoW is a lot of fun, it hooks you almost immediately. Its intuitive gameplay gets the addiction juices flowing quickly.
That said, there's very little player input in character development outside Talents. I never really altered playing strategy from oh level 20 on. After a few months that fun becomes routine. Quest fatigue for me set in; gameplay became item quest. The higher end gear can only be had from instances which require full groups. (Item and group dependancy, now where have we seen that before?)
Re the community: The boards are unreadable.
In game, in order to maintain sanity I had to turn off the regional chat channels.
And this, in closed beta.
Retail will be horrifying I think

When I logged back in later in the evening around 11pmest, there were a lot more people on. I found a harvesting party of about 6 or 7 people (thanks Fuzz) and had a blast. I guess the East Coast people aren't that many in numbers.

Hahahahha OMG .. that was the best comment I have read on these forums today .. so true so F***ing true.
Thanx you brought a smile to my face after so many posts about people leaving
BTW I cancelled both my accounts 2 days ago. Im just waiting to pre-order the euro release of WoW.
I just hope they can hold it together for the people that still love this game.

Got into WoW open beta last night, for a beta infinitely more polished than this game. I like the graphics in Ryzom much better, the sounds, the swaying trees, but come content there's just no comparison. WoW has little dungeons in the newb zones, quests, diverse monsters. It does seem that all characters will be the same, fun though. Will definitely keep me busy till Tuesday and my EQ2 box shows up then I'll decide which I like better.
I agree completely about the community, however. Even in beta the chat channels make me squirm. We'll see though. Good game and worth trying.

Ouch. Since the boards here have been kind of dead, I went over to browse the WoW boards. Big mistake. Huge mistake. There's a thread there about how a GM gave someone a 72-hour ban for using ethnic slurs on a global channel. Over half of the posters on the thread thought there should be
no repercussions for using ethnic slurs at all. Terrifying. Simply terrifying. I could feel my posture degenerating and my brow elongating even as I read. That community really seems to act as a cure for evolution. It's like leaping into a time/reality machine and going back to an era before language was developed where everyone just hit each other with clubs.
