I'm defending the game ignorantly...I have yet to try the game after patch 1 so I bow to anyone complaining about it at this point. For the original poster, you won't miss what you haven't experienced. It's unfortunate a large amount of players who have had a taste of Ryzom before patch 1 may get discouraged by the changes, so feel lucky to be part of the ignorant few who will experience and learn to deal with the game with new eyes.
see you in the game.

After this patch, Ryzom deserves the 5.6 out of 10 score it got from Gamespot, imho. Probably less. What bugs me is I heavily defended the game back when that article came out. Now I just give a *shrug* and ponder angrily the time wasted in this game.
At this point I'm watching WoW and EQII to basically decide which one I'm going to try next.

Other than having the word "patch" in it, I don't see how your post has any relevance to this thread. I'm sorry the game isn't fun for you any more, but there's no reason to go name calling those of us who still enjoy it. Take a break from SoR, play soemthing else for a few months and check back in every once in a while.
Note: I'm not saying not to complain, there are plenty of things to complain about and plenty of threads where it's appropriate to do so. But unless your complaint has bearing on why a new player might find the game less fun after this patch, it's not really appropriate here.
To keep this on topic: In another thread someone had a complaint about lower level solo players not being able to go much past the city gates. Can anyone comment if this patch has made that situation worse, or are most of the damage boosts on higher level creatures? Do I need to fear Suckling Yubos again?

As far as I can tell and from various posts around, the mob increases are global. Vigorous gingos are near the city gates of Pyr and several have complained of frenzy killing (adds, insta-respawns, large aggro radius).

That was me, I think, but I haven't yet had the time to personally try things after the patch. From what the general consensus so far is, though, it sounds like the situation unfortunately is worse.
This game desperately needs a reason for lower level players to want to play. Not just content, but also rewards that will help us advance. And we have to be able to advance, not die the moment we can no longer see the city gates. And I don't want to have to rely upon the charity of higher level chars giving me freebies to get me started, either.
I hope I'm wrong about some of this, but it seems to me that the game is not balanced correctly for new players, at least those who solo.

Some of the following will be moot now that they've announced they'll be tweaking the patch, but I thought I'd follow up with my experiences.
I logged on with my 'established' character (if you can call him that!) and found the new patch brutal. The Welcomer Missions were available again, so I started from scratch (deliberately not spending points). The melee step was a bit tough, but the harvester step was impossible. I kept trying it in different ways and eventually got frustrated and quit.
A while later, I logged on, created a new character and ignored the missions. Instead I stuck near town levelling up my various skill sets. I stuck to killing Suckling Yubo's and didn't range out very far at all. And I had fun! Combat was still a little frustrating just because it was so fast that the lag couldn't keep up to it, if you follow me. I'd get hit a few times before the screen updated to show the mob attacking me. When you can only survive 3 or 4 hits, 'losing' 2 to lag is really tough.
So for me (and again, I see that they're toning things down anyway, but I'm just finishing off this thread based on what's there now) the trick was to ignore the Welcomer Missions and to be really careful in melee, and then the game was still fun after the patch.
But that's 100% a newbie point of view. None of my skills have reached 10 yet, and all that said, I'm glad they'll be scaling things back a bit.

And in all honesty, how long can you kill suckling yubos before it ceases to be fun? I thought that the game was monotonous and limited for low-level chars pre-patch. Post-patch there seemed to be no reason to play whatsoever. Many have said that the patch was aimed at higher level chars, but I actually see those of us below level 50 as being most impacted. If we could barely leave town before, where does that leave us now?
Hopefully the upcoming "patch of the patch" will fix things somewhat. I don't like this very major tinkering and going back and forth in a game that's out of beta, though.
