Yes, I find those posts annoying, but those people ARE customers of Nevrax and if they are leaving, then Nevrax needs to know.
Blind fanboism is getting to be a bit too rampant here. If anyone wants to see the outcome of that just check out Horizons.
But is it necessarily "blind fanboism"?
I don't think it's that clear-cut.
I think alot of it has to do with perception of any individual. Put simply, what one person might see as a glaring bug, someone else might not see as a big deal at all. Admitted, there are definitely some who feel Nevrax can do no wrong. Conversely, there are those who feel they can do no right. But, compared to other games - especially Horizons - relatively speaking, the number doesn't seem to be so drastic here. People seem mostly balanced in this community.
I don't think there's a single person who would say "Ryzom is perfect.. it has no bugs." So, is it necessarily a case of people denying the game has problems? Or maybe that they just don't see them as *that* big a deal, given the time the game's been on the market and given their overall gameplay experience?
I can't speak for everyone on this, but I can speak for myself... I see it this way..
I'm playing a game that I am greatly enjoying. There are bugs, and I'm noticing them, and some of them irk me a bit... but they're simply not hindering my play experience to a point where I'm unable to play or achieve a goal.. and they are being addressed.
I've played several MMOGs that were, to me, unplayable due to issues in the game. To me, Ryzom is not one of them. This game is showing more polish and solid development even in its first month out than I've personally seen in some other games after a year or more on market. That gives me a positive feeling about where the game is going. Some people see the too-fast armor degrade as a deal-breaker. I see it as a temporary issue that will be sorted out and doesn't really matter in the long run. In the first month of a game's release, compared to the 8 years or so they have planned out for us, it's a speck that people will look back at and say "Remember the armor issue when this game first launched?" - much like how people look back on Anarchy Online's disastrous launch now - and are still playing.
So.. I don't think it necessarily falls squarely as being "blind fanboism" or "blind hatred".. I think there's a grayer area in there that's colored by an individual's perspective on things.. And of course, there's the person's attitude, mentality and maturity at work too... but that's a whole other deal.
Also.. I think comparing it to Horizons is an apples-to-oranges comparison. Horizons is an extreme anomaly, I think. There were clearly problems in Horizons - and at AE - that reach far beyond the game itself. Looking at all that's transpired, and continues to transpire surrounding that game, I think it's safe to say the entire situation has never been anything but chaotic in the company's offices. They couldn't even get their ducks in the same room.. much less in a row, with the company, with the game, with their hosting company and with the players. It's a rolling train wreck that's brought that game snowballing to where it is now.
I also think the people who believe Nevrax are doing things, like "nerfing" or what-not, to spite or punish *them* need to get over themselves and snap out of it. There's too much "me" in their perspective.
Nevrax cares about this game and they want it to succeed. They have far more at stake than any one of us players do. If Ryzom failed, we would all go find another game and would only be out the cost of the game and maybe a month or so of subscription fees, and the time, of course. I couldn't even begin to imagine what kind of money has been invested in this game so far. I have read that MMOGs are among the most expensive type of games to develop and maintain, and I'm sure it's alot more than what any of us have invested so far. We have a source of entertainment at stake. They have their jobs and livelihoods on the line. Finally, there's the personal passion, pride, energy and love that each designer and developer has undoubtedly spent the past many months of their lives pouring into this project. Nevrax are going to do everything they can to see that Ryzom succeeds. They don't need to be "frightened" or "threatened" into doing so by the posts of a portion of this forum's community. Nor do they need to be praised into doing it by the so-called "fanbois". They have a vision for this game, and they're working for it. They're doing it on their own. However, they are open and receptive to the constructive feedback from the game's players - both positive and negative - and are proving this.
So.. for me, I look at each of the bugs, or balance issues that are being fixed or corrected as mere growing pains. They're not permanent. They're not a harbinger of the game's failure. And they're not deal-killers. But.. that's me and I know I don't speak for everyone.
I just wanted to bring a different perspective on the situation...
