If theres only ONE north american server than its fair to say the population there is very low.
Overall population is one thing. It matters to the player only as far as whether the game has enough subscribers for long term viability.

So long as the game is viable what matters much more to the player is how many players are there on "my" server. In the case of the NA server I can answer that one. There are enough players that there are always others around, sometimes a lot, sometimes only a few (I play at odd hours sometimes) but not so many that it seems over crowded or congested. In other words, just about perfect! :)

Great way to handle flame bait. :) You sure you aren't a CM? (peeks closer into the monitor)

Nope, just a fan of the game. I don't mind being called a fanboi (even if I am a girl :) ) But it seems every day I play I discover another subtlety that draws me to this game a bit more.

Obviously this game isn't for everyone (what game is?), but I still have a hard time understanding why those who have nothing but ill will toward Ryzom, those who wish it to fail when it is clearly not failing, are still hanging around here.

My last experience with a game that I decided I did not like (Lineage 2), and keep in mind, this is a game I actually played, when I decided it was time to go, I stated the things I felt were wrong in a constructive way, then I left. I didn't hang around endlessly predicting the demise of L2, I just stopped visiting the forums.

But that's just me.

*shrug*

what else they gonna do? they cant go outside, the other kids will make fun of them, and they cant play any of these games because no one wants to play with them

as for the population. im sititng in Matis newbi grounds atm on a new charecter. about 10 people chatting away.

/who list shows 40 people in the starting area.

now keep in mind the starting area is only ment for the first 20-30 levels

main land has a heck of a lot more, last time i was on my main i counted 100 in the first zone (city zone) of matis

and to the guy who said 1 server = dead, i happen to like less servers, means there actualy populated. infact it would not bother me if there where only three servers, English French and German speaking. the fact is these servers can handle a lot more than most MMORPG's can
the time the kitins invaded matis, about 100 people defended against tens of thousands of monsters with no lag

so.. unlike games like SWG they dont need loads of servers

(Look at AO, only 2 real servers (german one was unpopulated) and thats the most popular online game with the most subscribers)

Game seems to have a decent population. I can certainly group when I want. Each land is gonna be a bit different, but its not like I dont' see people.

Newbie island, I can't say. people are going to trickle in and play. It probalby could be lonely at times, but grouping isn't all that important on the newbie island. If you get bored, you can always go to the mainland too.

That's anything but true. As you don't have any idea how they have their game setup you can't judge the server population via server size. I do know this, MMO's do not have the setup of 1 server = 1 machine.
