I was originally playing AO and waiting for WoW/EQ2 to come out but i got totally burned out on AO so i decided to get a "pitstop" game while i waited.
But blizzards policy about forcing servers is leaning me towards boycotting the game (after having waited for it eagerly since the day it was announced
)
So my view shifted towards EQ2, but the impression i get from it from the official boards and the big fansites is that its a game where you have no freedom
EQ2s slogan is someting like "Welcome to our world™" and it really is THEIR (the dev's) world, there doesnt seem like you have much of a choice in what skills to get, and all the zones are lvl restricted (both a minimum lvl to enter and a maximum lvl where you cant enter any more) so you dont have much choices, if any at all
So ive not made up my mind yet, but Ryzoms small community and the total lack of people willing to team is quite discouraging (why do people SOLO in a mmorpg ? might as well play a singleplayer rpg which is free after the initial purchase and has no downtimes nor griefers nor lag)

Im sticking to the game why
1. As mentioned community is one of the best i have seen on any online game.
2. GM's, guides are really helpfull and are good fun only once in eq did i have a conversation with a gm most of the time they ignored you.
3. The game itself although not as much content as i hoped to begin with but with big patches on their way looks set to address this. I love the fact you can do whatever skill you want to and the way its set up is good. Having played swg and been an imagedesigner and carbineer i couldnt gain any more skills and i loathed dropping either to do another which may have been less fun. Graphics are nice in some cases excellant lots of little things such as shooting stars insects and other small animations make this game world come alive and no lag or very little compared to swg where things popped up right in front of u.
4. The company and developers are keen to support their community nice offers of a free extra week on subscriptions asking on the forum what their customers want in the game. Seems that they are more interested in their cutomers than big financial gains. keep your customers happy and they stay with you and you get sonstant revenue. Soe i have found in both swg and eq made the game unberable with making you have to grind grind grind and instead of fixing issues they just release another expansion pack to keep us quiet.
So no eq2 for me soe made me hate their games. Wow maybe a little peak into the game but this seems to be much the same as other games but for me my main game will be Ryzom,

Giving it a go for a few months. I tend to play two MMORPGs at the same time, on fantasy and one something else and currently I'm more than happy with this and City of Heroes.
For more than that, a lot depends upon whether they get the quest system right as without some story/reason behind all the killing of monsters I tend to get a bit bored.
However, at the moment its great fun and I look forward to re-rolling again as I just can't get my skills right

Well, I can't say that I have any experiences in other mmoprgs, since Ryzom is my first. But I was in OB1, sadly didn't have the time for FBT (otherwise I would have suscribed) and did as much as my RL allowed me, in OB2.
All in all, as other have said, the community is awesome, besides all those that whine and whine and whine.
The game has still things and areas and events to discover as there will be more patches and events.
The staff is great. They are friendly, quick in responding, helpfull and always have 1 minute or 2 to chat.
To be honest, I don't even expect the game to be absolutely bug-free, cause this world is simply to gigantic. But if the major probs are fixed and they keep asking for ideas and/or feedback to improve the game, I see no reason in leaving.
So far, it has been fun, and I can stick with this for quite a while.

Now who knows if in 6 months a new big mmorpg comes out with tons of original ideas ... preferably a PvP one

As above I'm going to WoW as soon as its out in the UK and possibly I might not even sub in this beyond the free month (and extra week). There just isn't enough to do in this at the moment, beating up mobs soon gets boring whether grouped or not. What this game needs is some content and fast or its going to die on its feet.

Ill stick to the company that seems like they care about there customers. Nevrax has proved that too me so far, and as a result they will get my dollars.
Content can be added at any stage, whats more important is the community and the company behind the game - whats there attitude?, so far its been good and i see no reason to sell out and move to another title, especially when SoR has so much to offer.
WOW interests me, and if i had enough time id play both, but since i dont have the time, and Ryzom has the potential to break more boundaries than WoW does, ill stick too it. WOW is the consolidation of whats been, Ryzom is the future...
