I'm the same way. I guess I look at it that I have spent a large amount of time in building one up, and I don't want to go through that all over again. All of the MMO's I have played I had the same character (heck even the same name).

never re-rolled. I've made a couple of "mistakes" if you can really call it that with my character, but given that you can fix it by doing your original plan or just switching to a new plan, I've never found a reason to necesitate rerolling my character. So what if i couldn't add HP bonuses to anything i made until level 70 crafting. I can now and it didn't require that much effort. I'm nearly lvl100 in Harvesting and I don't have any of the accelrated prospection stanzas, nor do i have any of the resource tracking stanzas. I'm beginning to wish i did, but that's no big deal, it just means that i'll have to go earn some extra SP.

Now that I think about it, I've *never* rerolled *any* of my characters in any of the games that i"ve played, *ever*. One of the main reasons I don't re-roll is because every game I have ever played it's entirely possible to make up for your mistakes through loot or through careful selection of skills there after. The other reason i don't reroll is I hate "cookie cutter" characters. I mean the only reason to reroll a character is if you plan on being terminally low level (trying out alternative races does not count here), because in the end what you did while initially creating your character will not have that huge of an effect on your character at high levels... Unless you did something completely retarded like created a caster and then got to level 100 without ever casting a spell, but in this game that's impossible because you level the skills you use. You just have to remember to hunt the appropriate monsters for the level of skill you have.

I rerolled for aesthetic reasons: I got sick of looking at the desert and thought I would give the forest a try. I also thought it would be fun to make a really ugly toon (Jethro). Like others have said, I had the open beta to help avoid some mistakes, but I've still made some. Why the drive to get that perfect character? I mean, at level 100, what's the loss of 100 sps?

I´ve never rerolled my char since Beta 1! :p

And making "mistakes" is part of the game, if you call misspending 30 SP a mistake!
And if you did so, don´t plame on the game, blame it on you. You allways have the opportunity to ask in the forum before using your SP!!
It helped my twice, but it wouldn´t be the apocalypse if i hadn´t ask.

More and more I get the impression that most of you are spending more time on analysing the game than playing it. Every inch of it has to be calculated before setting a foot out of the refugee camps. There are calculations for every tiny aspect of it, be it the frequency of appearing harvesting mats or the decay of armor by killing certain mobs.

You destroy the fun of the game by doing this, believe me! I never calculated anything and it seems, i am the only one having no problems that you people seem to have at all.
Good for me...

I have not yet re-rolled a character and I don't plan to.

I am in this game to have fun and enjoy playing with others with the same philosphy.

I am not in this game to be at the top of any standing, list, competition, or to be named in any "who's who in Ryzom" publication. In fact, if it ever occurs to me that I am in fact beginning to play the game for such reasons, I will quit immediately and spend that subsription money on therapy instead.

Therefore, my characters will all be fine even if they are somewhat inconvenienced by my own poor choices or the development team's need to adjust overpowered actions or skills.

After all, the relationships I have worked to build with my guildmates, my friends, and with the rest of the Ryzom community will not be destroyed by even a major change in the game mechanics.

And to me, that's the only thing that really counts for anything in a MMORPG.

Put me down for "Never" also. I knew that I wanted a Fyros after trying several races in open beta. Since I am happy with my choice of race/appearance there is absolutely no reason to re-roll. Any early "mistakes" I have made in terms of skill selection have easily been corrected without rerolling.

Same. I don't see the point in rerolling in a game that is skill based rather than purely level based. There's not much to have to "undo", and there'll always be more SP later on.

Even with "purely level based" games I don't see the point in rerolling other than to replay the newbie levels. Then again the only "purely level based" MMO i've played has been EQ, and in that game you could easily make up for your mistakes through loot. I'll admit that it wasn't like that in the beginning, but once the expansion packs started rolling in it became clear that your starting stats meant very little, and you could make up for any difficiencies by acquiring the right loot.

The only reason to reroll a char would have been it´s appearence, that you might find being crap later. But with the cosmetic-skill even that is no reason anymore...
