vector tracing sux. you'll only waste your time with cleaning your paths. just DIY in illustrator, inkscape, photoshop, gimp or whatever ;)

ya.. png is bitmap info, so cant really enlarge/shrink it easily. smart object yields pretty much the same results as upscaling it.. the main problem is the starting image is too small. cant go from 64x64 pixel at 72 dpi to 600x600 pixels at 72 dpi. bit of a drastic upscaling there.

i tried to remake it in illustator... .. . .. not exactly how i wanted it to look :-X

thanks for the infos and help.

Ugh, I didn't consider doing a 10x enlargement, that won't work - as we've seen.

I wonder if the original vector files are floating around on some artist's hard drive? That would be a nice addition to the web kit files.

it's possible to make good large image working from the webkit:

This is the LoA Guild Symbol 1000x1000 made by Yarel some time ago:

so, i suppose starting from the symbols in the webkit you can get some good large image.

nice logo.. ya i agree i should just redraw it. which i have started to do.. the problem occurs when i do the transparent part near the leaf veins.. doing it in photoshop just makes it look weird.

anywho thanks to everyone who tried to help and gave me suggestions.

ok photoshop (CS3 i hope ;) . photoshop is pixelbased so even if you are using paths, you'll need to fix your resolution first. 1000x1000 more than enough for web use.

first i would use path circle to create the background. simple method is to create 2 of them (blue and green) add a mask layer and just mask one half of the circle.

ok than create the leaf and veins on extra layers.

copy the leaf layer. set the lower leaf layer transparency to 60% and the upper one layer fill to 0%.

doubleklick the upper one. now you can set layer styles. enable inner shadowing. disable global light. set everything but size and transparency to 0 and adjust the size of shadow effect. now it should look like the leaf on the draft.

ok now create a mask on the LOWER leaf layer, click the mask to select it, press CTRL and klick on the vein layer (the contour should be selected now) select a dark grey color and fill the selection on the mask layer with it. the veins should be half transparent now. you can vary the transparency by filling it with different gray colour.

to get a noisy shadow look just raise the noise bar in the layer style.

i hope it's understandable :)

ps: if you scale the paths you'll need to adjust your shadows. they do not scale. i suggest just to generate a PNG and scale the PNG file to desired resolution
