lordzren wrote:love the game. the skills rock. but well the maps are small

there are not many places to go. a few towns which are all the same and thats about it.

no places of intrest. nothing like that at all.

you cannot get lost for hours . a few months down the line when we can travel more easly it wont take long to just run accross the map of ryozom

the prime roots where alot smaller than i was expecting and they are empty of intresting points.

but this seems to be the trend of mmorpgs to date.

look back at ac1 eq and you are in a world about 1x the size of ryzom.

now you have games like sor swg wow coh etc and all of a sudden its small zones with not much in them.

anyone else getting the feeling that the world of ryzom is not that big. what is it about 20km accross? takes what 10mins to run 1k . so your looking at what 2-3 hours to explore the whole map at later levels?

fantasitc looking world but does this mean there is too much dev time making new zones?

am i missing something?

Evidently you may be. It sounds like you are in the starting lands.

To take a group of people from the far end of Bounty Beaches all the way to the far side of the Lagoon of Loria takes a number of hours. And that is just 1 civilizations lands, and thats with taking the direct route, let alone sight seeing.

The game world is intended to change, evolve if you will. Which means even more lands to be added.

I just don't see how this is a small world. It is much bigger than eq was at release, takes longer to cross than shadowbane's lands, and much more dangerous to do as well. The way it should be.

You're the second person that's mentioned this, but I don't think this guy could be in the starting land still. He talks about the prime roots being too small.

Am I the only person that thinks 2-3 hours to travel the world on foot is perfect? If the world were any bigger, it would become tedious to travel an hour to that great harvest location or awesome monster spawn.

i wasnt in my first post talking about the training grounds.

on them you hear these big things about the mainland and when you goto it it isnt as big as you first seem.

every race has a diffrent style of citys but within a race all there citys are clones of the next.

other games have weird and wonderfull places , artifacts , buildings to find . sure some dont do anything but they all have abit of lore behind them.

this game hasnt got strange things to see which give a clue to whats hidden in the land.

and again when i talk about the size of the map which i still think is small its the other things you need to take into account.

we will soon have mounts. travel will instanlty become faster and safer.

if the creature training skill comes out we will have an even faster way of travel.

once you have found a transporter you can now instanly goto that place in the game at any time.

places for good hunting harvesting etc will be found and people will meet there.

what im saying in is 2 months down the line if you want to pop over to anywere in the complete game map it may only take you 10 mins. transport to a spot close and ride a mount the rest.

swg fell into this trap. lots of worlds to explore but travel was too fast and easy.

i think the only game which had a real game world was prob anarchy online. in that game there are so many places to visit etc.

saying that if sor started to have a strong pvp system, fantastic epic battles , defending citys, the chance to loose a city and have it taken over,

big changes like your tryker and the citys have been distroyed , the lake lands are overrun by very high lvl monsters and you have to excape to another land.

and of corse there are the 2 big questions

1) what is the saga of ryzom?

2) atm there is no real bad guy just monsters. who is behind it. or is is just fractions?

heh ... travelling the world in 2-3 hours is a dream. Even if you had Zzei (the best tank in the game) and a full team of Zorai and Tryker, you will not be doing a walking cross of the world in that time.

That said, it does seem like the world is a little small. Especially once you get to Matis lands where it seems like mobs actually are afraid of you ... I am not sure that I saw more than 2 dozen respectable mobs in the entire area of Matis. Running through there is a cakewalk!

Tryker land and the PR will give one a sense of claustrophobia since you can spend anywhere from 1-3 (in a bad case) hours threading the needle between packs of highly aggro mobs that have been waiting all their digital lives for a shot at bashing your head in. The PR are blessed with the kiten patrols ... which are simply absurd. Give us a couple weeks and we should fix that.

Tomorrow will see a parade of giddy Tryker and Zorai prancing their way from Thesos up to Pyr ... and we will be able to give our input on whether or not the Fyros lands are balanced ... heh! :D

I remember when Horizons was released I took my level one character and decided to run thru all the 'bad' areas I had seen in beta.
I thought that now I would see them full of high level mobs and would be dead in no time but I never died and unfortunately got to see all the vast empty spaces.
That should have been a warning to me but I swallowed all the devs smooth talk about all the content coming soon.
What came was endless balancing (read massive nerfing).
I should have quit then but did I? No I foolishly worked hard on developing a well-balanced character that got more and more out of wack as the nerf stick fell harder and harder.
It is a mistake for a MMORPG to be released in a "too easy" format and then to be followed by nerf nerf nerf.
Everyone sees to the end of the game and then they pull the curtains.
Not a great idea. Much better to make the game very very tough at release and then make it easier if need be.
