Personally I've always considered the monthly fee to be a minor, almost insignificant cost in comparison to the sheer amount of hours you need to invest into an MMO if you really want to be involved in it. And I've never found any F2P game that's worth
that investment.
The new owners have never suggested that Ryzom might become F2P forever. The account creation clearly states that these are free TRIAL accounts. If reporters for MMO sites get their facts wrong or fall prey to wishful thinking and start spreading the word that Ryzom is going F2P, that's sad, but it's hardly something you can blame the new owners for.

no one 'cept admin knows that. signs say it rather won't be f2p and thats a good thing in the view of - I'd say - most players who aren't playing with a trial acct.
you won't get a better answer unless you shout straight at admins.

oh sorry, just saw that. dunno a thing bout brazil mmo forums or where they get their news from. If you read the forum the owners hint rather at: you gotta pay again in the future.
A shame should such a miscommunication (by whomever) lead to a bad image for ryzom in some potential markets. Would be nice if someone gave a hint to said mmo site.
can't imagine that it was indeed a newsflow from the owners because the news flow rather modestly and the info contained says something different than f2p

I read alot about "I would never pay for this." "This game will die once its P2P."
Well, first of all if this is not your game then no need to subscribe of course. Hence the free trials to get a good view on its current state.
Second, I'm no fortuneteller, you aren't either so don't doom a game not even *we* know what is planned for the re-opening. Also Ryzom is by no means a new WoW, WAR or any of the other popular games killer, Ryzom has its own flair and players that feel attracted by this.
Maybe exactly those who grow tired of the endless generic MMO clones with only changing graphics and themes have waited for a game like Ryzom?
Just my 2 cents.

The new owners have other things to do then spreading fake news etc. This was never Ryzom's style. Ryzom usually = lack of information. You see and wait.
This was a misunderstanding / mistranslation as mentioned above. Read the official announcements that clearly state that new and old players are free to play during the time the owners prepare the game for official relaunch.
Yes, we are indeed the opposide - priveleged - to play the game for free while they work on it. Could have been totally different, they worked on it secretly 3 months and then reopened it.
So to adress all complaints "blabla unfinished, would never pay for this experimental game", it is indeed unfinished, and you can kind of have a peek inside during the development cycle.
The fact that no daily huge visible changes occur is simple to explain, they work at the moment at the core engine of the game. You need a stable core to build on it.
I hope this adresses and sums up some of the stuff that get analysed and talked about in universe chat recently, I'm tired of it by now.

The truth is out there, Agent Mulder.
You just have to read it and don´t depend on hearsay.

I think I have pointed out the clearest hints saying that the game will not remain free to play. And, as Arcueid said, the reason they are not implementing new CONTENT (visible) is that they are working on the CORE (invisible but important part) of the game. The engine that runs it all.
The fact that the new Ryzom Team supports and integrates the open sourcing of the NeL only means that we will benefit from the stability upgrades and bug fixes.
The accounts that have been offered to the public are clearly labeled as FREE TRIAL : which means that players are free to decide that :
1) Either the game is what they are looking for and they are ready to pay for it.
2) The game is not and they are free to leave in search of a game that better fits their taste.
Even if they decide to not pay, their account will still exist in case they change their minds... in case they DON'T find a better game out there, no matter how "Next Gen" the other/newer games pretend to be. (Many of our veterans have been there, done that and came back running.)
Whether you like it or not, trying a new game is not a waste of time. PAYING for a game you don't like, however, IS a waste of BOTH time and money.
And I would like to point out the fact that no MMO is really a finished product... why would they keep releasing new patches, then ? MMOs are in constant evolution, always being tweaked and worked on, unlike Single Player RPGs : otherwise they become stagnant and lose customers. Some companies make you pay for the dowload/CD copy of their client, buy the expension packs AND charge you a monthly fee. Some even dare make you pay for customer service (server switch, name change, etc...) Ryzom only made you pay a subscription to their services. Everything else was free of charge. Not that bad, really.
