As for rewards: I dunno if it would be impossible to code this or whatever, but an apropriate, apreciated and above all tempting reward would be that you get say a 10 or 20% increase in the bulk your packers can hold, rather like the focus boosts / durability boosts for some of the rites.
The problem with one time rewards is the following: the afternoon this addition goes live, after several months of development and testing from the devs, a hugaton of players would do the caravan, get the reward and forget about it altogether. In short, "content is consumed at a way higher pace than is developped" -- and this is true for things like rites. Not bad per se, but not optimum.
This is what justifies a possible mitigation in the form of consumables or wearing-off items. So. what could be a nice reward? imho a personal guideline when designing rewards is "provide something roughly equivalent to what a player would have got doing another -- supposedly more boring -- activity during roughly the same amount of time" following the premise the MMRPGs reward invested active time. For example: a digger can dig 400 mats in e.g. 1 hour (yes, I know that *you* lovely reader, can do it in 28 minutes, but this is for illustration purposes
) or a hunter can loot 250 then, if the task takes 1 hour to complete, the reward could be e.g. like 180 (penalty for the fun) mats, type and quality depending on the given quest and taking into account the regions involved: caravan from Yrkanis to Natae, 50 q50 mats.
mats, cats, flowers, these are the kind of durable rewards appropriate for durable quests. A quest that rewards an item is repeated at a rate that matches the time the item wears off...
Advantages: for the busy bees: the way funnier quest will provide something useful. You can get cats to be used in more boring things later -- and providing an alternative for Ops to the (citing Zysha) "havenots", and not for free, as a reward of invested time.
If you go for the increase of bulk, then make it like "DP". The bulk of the packer is increased around 20%, stackable up to 4 times (i.e., 80%) extra the base bulk, and decreasing with time at a e.g. rate of 20% per day. You do the quest for 2 hours, you get 8 hours extra bulk... sorta "bulk buff"
Caveat Emptor: Figures made up for illustration purposes, requiring and in-depth analysis...
