Make it so you cannot use a mount.

Reward:
Fame
Cats

Personally at this stage for me Cats are meaningless, but access to cats should not be totally in the domain of OP guilds .... even removed from the whole OP situation IMO.

But maybe make the quest repetitive, so others can gain a better access to cats.

How about the Q250 OP holders orgnising events for not just "winners" but participants getting Cats as prizes?

Catalysers are the safest option for reward, and fame of course.
cats cats cats. I like these kinds of cats. I want a pet yubo or kincher as a reward, tyvm ;)

I am glad you like the proposal, have to speciffy it's not me but Terol's idea. He cannot post over the forums atm so he asked us in guild forums to post it for him :)

By the way untill such thing is implemented we could organise events of this kind, I think Evol had a great mini lore event related to a caravan that was to be ambushed while in ToT?

Very nice and simple idea, and could be worked into a lot of different quests. It should also be available in the Ring, just like a "talk to" quest.

I would like to see "private caravans" too, where you had to go dig up X amount of Y, and now you have to return it to Z.

Does anyone remember this event? The Zorai had some scientists studying the goo and they began research into making a weaponised form of it. We had to transport these materials/plans from the jungle down to the desert (I think) to avoid it falling into the wrong hands *grin* Of course we had to go via LoU and there was lots of healthy PvP fun and a great atmosphere. We should definitely do this again! Although, IIRC isn't PvP turned off in LoU atm?

Now that would be an awesome reward :D

The problem with one time rewards is the following: the afternoon this addition goes live, after several months of development and testing from the devs, a hugaton of players would do the caravan, get the reward and forget about it altogether. In short, "content is consumed at a way higher pace than is developped" -- and this is true for things like rites. Not bad per se, but not optimum.

This is what justifies a possible mitigation in the form of consumables or wearing-off items. So. what could be a nice reward? imho a personal guideline when designing rewards is "provide something roughly equivalent to what a player would have got doing another -- supposedly more boring -- activity during roughly the same amount of time" following the premise the MMRPGs reward invested active time. For example: a digger can dig 400 mats in e.g. 1 hour (yes, I know that *you* lovely reader, can do it in 28 minutes, but this is for illustration purposes :P ) or a hunter can loot 250 then, if the task takes 1 hour to complete, the reward could be e.g. like 180 (penalty for the fun) mats, type and quality depending on the given quest and taking into account the regions involved: caravan from Yrkanis to Natae, 50 q50 mats.

mats, cats, flowers, these are the kind of durable rewards appropriate for durable quests. A quest that rewards an item is repeated at a rate that matches the time the item wears off...

Advantages: for the busy bees: the way funnier quest will provide something useful. You can get cats to be used in more boring things later -- and providing an alternative for Ops to the (citing Zysha) "havenots", and not for free, as a reward of invested time.

If you go for the increase of bulk, then make it like "DP". The bulk of the packer is increased around 20%, stackable up to 4 times (i.e., 80%) extra the base bulk, and decreasing with time at a e.g. rate of 20% per day. You do the quest for 2 hours, you get 8 hours extra bulk... sorta "bulk buff"

Caveat Emptor: Figures made up for illustration purposes, requiring and in-depth analysis...

It's true fast packers don't keep up with mounts, but they still run faster than most mobs. For these caravans we would need packers that move at the same speed as a running homin.

Beat me to it Ani. :)

As an addendum though: Every character only needs to be trekked around the world once to obtain the spawn points forever, but a lot of us still did dozens of world treks in our time, simply because there were always new characters needing to be trekked. Some rites I've done a second or third time too, this time helping someone else to complete it. So it's not always a matter of doing it once and then forgetting about it.

But I would ofcourse prefer if doing the caravan a second time would net a player some additional reward to the satisfaction of helping someone else complete it.

How could I forget? Still one of the best events ever. There's a link to it in the thread that Gilga linked to, if you want to refresh your memory. (Wasn't me that brought it up this time Sxar :p )

Personally I wouldn't bother doing such a quest for cats or flowers: they are not so hard to come by, and I gotta say I think there are plenty who would feel the same.

Yes, as new content it would be over almost as soon as it has been implemented, at least for those who are already at the point when they are elligible for the quest, but there are (hopefully) always new ppl arriving to lap it up, just as there are ppl who still haven't done the dura/focus rites (me!). If it were implemented as one of a number of similarly directed quests/rites, it's staying power would be increasd accordingly; again, much like the above-mentioned rites.

Regardinfg my idea for a reward: if what you say is true Ani, then the durability and focus bonuses awarded by their respective rites should "wear off" after a period of time also.

As for trekking new players as motivation; I don't need any such motivation to do that.

*wipes NB's drrool off sleeves* :D
3:1, 2:1, 1:1 ... probability factor of one to one; we have normality. I repeat: we have normality. Anything you still can't handle is therefore your own problem.
