35 is a bit excessive in my opinion. As a total newb I went to main as a Tryker at Melee 25, and had no problems. When I started my Zorai character, I went at 20 magic, 15 melee, and had no problems either. You just have to realize you are going to die a few times learning what you can and can't hunt. That Sprightly Yubo bites a bit harder than that Suckling Yubo. I died learning that. But a couple of Weanling Yubos later, that death penalty was all cleared up, and I could go back to my experimentation.

Basically, I say go when you feel comfortable with how the game works. There's stuff to kill on main at every level, as well as stuff to harvest and stuff to craft.

The mainland lacks good mobs to lvl from 10 to 20 with, so lvling that part there can take a little longer than on the newbie islands (with little I mean here "little").

Foragers should switch as soon as they can harvest q25, since the newbie islands have a q20 restirction (less exp), crafters can stay a good while, since the crafting missions on the islands are very good comapred to the mainland ones. Fighters and mages are more than ready to go to the mainland with lvl 20, but won't face any serious problems with lvl 1 as well.

The sooner they move to mainland the better. Mobs are different and are harder than on noobland. If you know people on the mainland and can group with them, get a handle on the combat system and ur skills, then move over. You'll be asking them what to kill and get tips on skills/spells so not a real benefit to staying.

If you're solo, stay till 21 where you can specialize. If you dont have a grip on the combat system at 21, stay till you do. Once you understand it move over. There's better equipment, wpns, xp on mainland than noob island. You'll be able to ask around for help and possibly group up with others of similar lvls.

Bottom line noob island is to get a handle on gameplay. Once you get a grip on that rest will come easy and you can advance faster on mainland.

Wel I decided to stay in Tryker Noobtown much longer than I did in the last beta. I did hit 50 in forage. The interesting thing is that there's lots of q50 mission mats in noobtown. So it was a nice way for me to get fame/dap/xp from completing missions and to level up pretty quickly to 50. And those missions were challenging. It was interesting how far I had to go to actually find some of the mission mats. Good experience for the mainland.

q100 armor has a con requirment of 90. if you make it to 90 con in newbie island... i'm impressed. raising 700k on newbie island will take about twice as long as it would on the mainland.
Agreed except this point -- for me, as a Matis, it was far easier to make money on the island than on the mainland. There were LOTS of lucrative armor crafting quests, and once you were done with one list of 'em, you could move on to another "city" and start fresh. You could cycle through all of them and never run in to an overseer who hasn't reset yet.

On the mainland, most of the overseer missions require you to make various items all in one set. Some of the "armor" missions require you to make obscure range ammo at the same time -- really odd.

I too believe that the need to stay on the newbie island has been blown way out of proportion. This is mostly from the people who have gone over and chosen not to pay attention to what they are doing when fighting new mobs and then end up being frustrated and restarting with all kinds of horror stories.

I found the mainland to be not that hard. Yes some mobs are considerably harder than on newbie isle, but they are also the mobs you don't really want to kill anyway (gingos hit points-wow). The other thing that is a bit different is that KOS mobs hang out very near the gates to the city. It was different but as long as you aren't running around with your eyes closed it is not a problem.

As for when you should go, well that depends on what you plan to do with the character, as a fighter/mage I say go as soon as you feel comfortable with fighting/magic and the way each one works. As a harvester stay until you feel comfortalbe with your skills again. As a crafter... stay for a very long time :) . I only say this because the island is great for the ease of getting mats and then there are the missions. As was stated above you can pretty much do missions forever on newb isle, not so on mainland, so stay as long as you can stand it. :)

Of course this is all up to you. Just remember to enjoy the game and not try to take it too fast. This game has lots to offer and if you fly through it you are missing way too much. :) Good luck. :)

After experimenting with all different races and skill sets, I decided to create my character and stick with him. Since I have played several characters and taken them to the mainland at different levels, I know that you can get by with just about any level, as long as you don't try to kill anything way out of your league.

I created a Zorai named Modo, and immediately teleported to the mainland without leveling anything. After a few hours of play, I have leveled my skills up considerably, and have not died yet. There are plenty of raw material sources within Zora, and lots of Yubos right outside the gates.

So I guess my point is, the beginner island is just for you to figure out the game without being confused by the huge cities. If you create a new character, but are already familiar with the game mechanics, there is no need to stay on the beginner island.

First off, lemme say that I completely agree that staying on noob island until you are 30 or even 20 in everything or even just your skill tree of choice is completely unnessasary, however you spell unnessacary. :D My first character was a Matis (God knows why... :p ) and I was completely turned off by the ppl I heard talking on the region chat in newb island; stuff to the effect of:

"Oh, the mainland is sooooo hard. I can't believe I had to reroll!"
"Don't leave here until you are 30 in everything."
"You need at least 100k to go to the mainland."
"You will die and not be able to respawn ever if you go to the mainland."

Okay, so I made that last one up. At any rate, I was extremely bored there, and went over to mainland as soon as I thought it would be safe; I dunno, 20 something in melee and some foraging levels. I didn't really have much trouble when I got to mainland. Sure, I died (but I was able to respawn), and sometimes it was frustrating, but not really. I did end up rerolling, but that was more b/c I was bored with my character and didn't really like him much, rather than b/c I was feeling defeated, which I was not at all. I was not having trouble leveling up at all.

But I just wasn't having a lot of fun.

And this is the point where this post becomes a blatant plug for Tryker Noobtown. I love it. :D I've spent way more time there than I ever intended, not b/c I feel I'm not ready to go to the mainland, but b/c I can't tear myself away. The people are great. The money's easy. I'm comfy. I will move eventually, but I am enjoying myself, so why go yet?

I think my point is, whatever. You don't need to stay in noobland if you're comfortable leaving. And you don't need to leave by a certain level if you're comfortable hanging around.

Do what you want. It's a game. ;)
