Most of what Ptol said makes a lot of sense, but like the rest of the posters here, I don't completely agree. Any game becomes repetitive when you've been in it a few years, its in the nature of games, whether it's WoW, Ryzom, football, snooker, poker or whatever. We're given a set of parameters by which we play, and within those parameters the options are necessarily limited. The fun is in the playing, the people we play with and what we put into it. In the case of Ryzom it has been (and probably always will be) more about what the players put into it than the devs. Even if there are to be regular and exciting updates/new content, etc, its all still down to what we make of it. Remember all the whiners during the last kitin invasion? "I just wanted to level dig, but I couldn't get near my spot for 3 whole days because of the stupid event. Make it stop please". Right there is an example of getting out what you put in, lol.

I agree wholeheartedly that we do need more content, and not just decorative stuff like gambling wheels and halloween yubos. It's well overdue that our storyline progressed a little, even if that only means the dreaded spires, at least it would be something new. More well greeted would be part 2 (it always has said on the loading page "1: Atys" (i think it still does, lol) so how about "2: betelgeuse" or whatever?

As for OP wars all being much the same, well yeah I guess they are, but again I refer you to my earlier point about poker, football, WoW, etc. And plods? I helped Xeraphim do his last few lvls or 2h sword soloing on kinchers, me healing out of team. Sure, I got no "xp" from that, but I did get XP in the more real sense that I learned something, felt something, experienced something, acchieved something. It's not all about XP, and there's more than one way to skin a plod :D

All this aside, I do feel Ptols points are all valid, but maybe made in a less than joyous frame of mind. On a more optimistic day, Ptol, your cup might have been half-full ;) Cheer up mate, hope the hangover's not too bad today !

The thing about new contend is, it can´t be just whiped up from nothing.
It has to be written and coded and tested and probalby repeat the process again and again until it "works as intended".

The game was dead for quite some time now.
So even if new "contend" is in some drawer somewhere and "just" has to be implemented and tested, still whats needed most is time.

Contend does not write or implement itself. ;)

I too would LOVE to see some things that were promissed finally realized on Atys, but I too see the sense in having to wait for it for some more time.

Yes, even to me the game sometimes tends to get boring, but well... I´ll go and read a good book then or do something else to while away the time. And have fun next time I lock in with my friends.

So, what I think is realy, realy needed is some kind of roadmap again, or at least a statement whats in the pipe somewhere, somehow and may be comming if the **** doesn´t hit the fan again and even "Spiderweb"s not sticky enough to keep the Game afloat.
This may give us some hope and contendment in our impatient long wait for new things to come.

As long as there isn´t such a thing, a listing of things we all know and probably the old/new devs know too is for naught. It won´t change a thing, it´ll only vent your frustration. At least it does a bit of good then ;)
But it´s all been said before and like you said repeating things gets boring quickly. ;)

So, try to be contend with what we´ve got for now and see what they hopefully come up with in the next weeks/month. Gnaw your fingers of in anticipation if it were for me, but try to stay calm and let them have the time they need to sort things out and get the job done properly.

And damn them if they don´t! I´ll gladly join in the chorus then!

As lovely as it all is, what it all boils down to is the average gamer. When you toss yourself into an open ended MMO such as Ryzom, first impressions are tantamount to whether you stick with the game or not. I may have enjoyed soloing my lower levels with my single minded devotion. But many other gamers are not as easily distracted. Perhaps you can say they don't deserve Ryzom, but dammit, if we want Ryzom we need the bodies. Anyone who joins can grow accustomed to our ways, but we do need a better first impression. Otherwise there may never be enough profit to add on, or even fix what has been broken for some time.
clyne wrote:I don't believe the "living planet" stands for non-afk homins. In-fact our planet Atys cares less about what a homin does anyway - yes she is quite a meanie :o

Aye she sure can be a wicked mother at times. >.< Accursed Raj.
gcaldani wrote:I think Kay gave you the most correct answer (but all the answers have their good points). Anyway, about the hunting spots, I disagree with you: the player have the freedom, even to be repetitive. I know many players (included myself) that hunted around whole Atys and didn't stepped thru a single path as you as you shown. Personally, I learned the weakness and the strength of animals hunting them all or just trying, or just for fun.
If you just do always the same spots is not a game fault, but your fault, expecially in a sandbox game.

Still doesn't change how few Homin we see in areas other than the ones I pointed out. I've grinded all over Atys, from forest to PR even and honestly the grind means little to me nowadays. I just enjoy experiencing the world with fellow Homin.
gcaldani wrote:I can only agree about the very few choices of superherbs to do the last levels, but nothing more. If, after many years, you still think the game is just about levels, then now you are missing the point.
Most probably, as Kay said, you have whole knowledge now and need something fresh and new. For sure the game needs new features, but for the new players there is plenty of things to do and learn.
Veterans need to be patience and wait to see what the new owners can do for the game in the future. It's still not fully reopened yet.
The issue is, these are problems that have been around since the INITIAL death of Ryzom. I have the patience, heck I'm still around, crusty as I am. I just needed to bring what has bothered me for so long to the table. However, as far as content goes, I remember when Ryzom constantly had lore events, no programming needed( not that I know jack squat about programming), just enough to take your mind away from your dig, your craft, your hunt and spend time in a random spot of the world, to learn more about Atys, and see many of your fellow Homin. Or even a party in Kami Oasis (Still spiteful I missed it) Patience is a virtue, but I truely miss those little things that added some spice into the mix.

Half-joke: don't have time to elaborate, my newbies need me

Honestly when you feel bored of a game and others don't, try not generalise, it just hurts feelings.
All OP wars same is a gross exaggeration, all boss hunts identical the same, most RPers have gone, CSR team scarce, why worry about RP events, huntinga areas=same spots, only if you want to (feel free give me a call to go to an unusual one)... etc etc etc, I haven't read all answers I suppose they tell you the same.

I had to deal with tens of guildies leaving, I know this song by heart, and not about Ryzom only. There is a certain wish to convince others a game is bad if you don't like it (anymore). Nope, as long as it's not deserted the game is not bad, is just not for you (anymore).

It's strange, I run by quite a few homins that I had never seen before and that, since my subscibtion. Oldies that I didn't know ? Newbies ? Who can actually tell ? But I sure am happy to see them !

When I'm tired of always digging the same old safe spots around Dyron, I seak new ones, new mats more dangerous but more fun also. And it helps me provide a variety of mats to my guildies.

Leveling ? I've been to Oflovask Oasis, Frahar Towers, KoD Jungle, Void, Yrkanis, Fleeting Gardens, Dew Drops (on Aniro) and more... I do appreciate the fact of having a whole grinding spot for my group and not getting interrupted by gank squads who are trying to steal it away from you. And at the same time, you get the feeling that the Atysian Wilderness is dangerous and outweights Homins.

:D

Aye, and I could say I almost feel bad. Though I can't say I'm bored, still have interesting homin to meet, random rezzes to make, Surprise CPs, ect ect. Just a few things have run dry for me, which is that comes with playing any game for quite some time. However, I remain, which should mean something about the greatness of Ryzom. Hells, I'm getting what I can out of ryzom, before am forced a 4-6 month vacation from gaming at the greatest beach on earth, due to my job.

True, there are the few that wander off into the uncharted wilderness, however a large majority of the areas you've named off, I can contest were the same areas countless Homin have hunted in, and usually populated in some manner great for newer folks nonetheless. However, take in mind the less trekked paths. One example Upper Bog, I've grinded Melee, elemental, and dig there ( though ages ago ). And there are only 2 names I ever remember seeing, outside of my party. That was Soloreaper, and Jezelia. Why do I remember these 2, because they stood out as the ONLY homin in the region. There are many other regions that share the same fate. But, perhaps I am too harsh.. far too many MMOs share that same issue, like Vanguard, which has remained ever-so-popular. ( yes you can slap me about for the sarcasm later)

As for the newer players flooding in, I suppose I viewed them as remake veterans, or mergers, so my views on the fresh populace can be a touch biased. However, I still welcome them, mingle with all and help them whenever I can. But thats my "Grinding" for this sandbox MMO, and the most satisfying experience for me.

Oh and Faa, I do have a few excellent hunting spots to play in. Lets just hope none of those nasty bandits shoot us down. :D
