you know, of all the things people have said as to why they dont/wont play this game never before has "the community" or "loads of high levels about" been mentioned.

why people are so desperate to wipe away 3 years of peoples work and fun I have no idea.

a wipe isnt new content.

That i find myself agreeing with jackoo, is a sign for me that we really have interesting times ;) , but, in all his quirky ways, he can put quit some truth into a few words(if he just wants to).
That sayed, for me too it was the example of the "older" players that lead me to try to reach or even excel them. mind you, i still havn´t reached one of them and don´t have even 1 master under my belt, but i had and still have a great time aspiring to my "Heros"* :) .

and again, so few words, so much truth in them, but what truth does they tell.
mostly, as an "old" player it´s boredom that haunts you, you´ve seen it all and you did it all, you´ve mastered 1 or 2 skills (or 4, or 5, or even 11 O_o) and have the feeling that there isn´t much you still can do with your toon...

but what you seek are the wonders of newness and that won´t come back with a serverwipe, only with a mindwipe, because even IF you start a new toon/get a wipe, you still know what you did all the time befor.
so essentialy the boredom would stay, you can´t really do or expirience something new, lest the devs remake EVERYTHING, story, world and lore(and that would mean that it isn´t atys anymore), only your new self can´t do everything you once could do.

try it, make yourself a new char(if u have a free slot), the grinding will at first distract you from boredom, but sooner then later you´ll be bored again, cause you´ve seen it all allready... so what can you do?

the easy thing, find something else, cause then you can feel newness again(like droping a girlfriend, because she isn´t new anymore), but that won´t change a thing, cause at some point, the "new" will turn "old" too.

the hard thing, try to grind those skills that aren´t in the skilltree, those that don´t give you ding´s, like being an icon of virtue or a despicable miscreant, that everyone loves or hates, but all aspire to be like, a figure larger then live itself, an example.

or the hardest, but(at least for me) the most rewarding thing...

being a teacher

cause the ding´s you get aren´t yours but theres and the best part(again at least for me) even if they surpass you after a time, you can say, i´m better still..
cause i had it harder, i had to walk through 30ft of snow, barfooted, uphill.... in BOTH directions :D .

don´t forget content isn´t what the devs come up with, these are just tools,
content is what we do with it, it´s in the mind of the people.

I joined Ryzom about a year ago. *points join date on the left*
By then, there was plenty of people running around with a handful of masters each and that was never a factor which would make me leave.
Quite the opposite, in fact. This isn't a game where people with a high-level toon run around ganking lowbies. Having them around isn't an obstacle to your progress.

My main goal as a homin wasn't to have tons of masters and titles to show off. My goal was simply to get aknowledged by those multi-masters as someone who is useful to have on your contact list AND to have enough contacts so that, in turn, I wouldn't run out of anything. Even if I still have no master (yet) and I am still learning a lot about this game, I did receive a lot of invites for various teams and am expecting to recieve more in the future.

As for teachin, it is truely rewarding. I started very soon, on Silan, when I was showing the newly arrived refugees the virtues and usefulness of careplanning and digging in team, giving them tips and tricks and then being very proud when they left for the main land after I had helped them going through their last quests. I was still stuck on Silan because lack of money, but I was very happy to be there and to know that some people on the Main Land were eagerly waiting for me to come over.

There are more goals to attain than just dinging 250s. I personally love to have some contacts on my trading list and to exchange goods and services with them. Especially the fact of being somehow helpful to them even if they are higher level than me. Being useful is fun. The fact that some oldies know your name and aknowledge you can be a goal to aim at too.

I like your goal Sherk. *hugs* I had no idea, tbh, who you were when the servers came up, and still dont know what it is your useful at *Grins*

But, I find that you are really quite nice and a kind person. thinking of you was one of the reasons I thought about abstaining from the "almost" OP battle tomorrow.

(Just for the record, there is not op battle tomorrow because of a pvp bug in op tagging)
