I think the importance of new content depends on the scope of what the company plans to deliver. If they are looking to break out of the niche market, I think new content is critical.

They need to have something to counter the failures of the past. As it stands now, I would think most reviewers would focus mainly on the lack of development, closed servers and multiple ownerships. Money spent on advertising could be quickly offset by comments about this being a no growth static game.

A meaningful patch would do much to prove that Ryzom has a future and active knowledgeable developers who can maintain the servers.

Nobody wrote any code for it in that times. So, new contend (code) would not magically appear from out of nowhere. It has to be written, which takes time.

I´ve settled in to wait, those who can´t and expect wonders, well ... good luck.

I´ll gladly join the cheers of joy if something comes up within a few weeks, and I´ll willingly join the chorus of hate if nothing happens in the next, say half a year.

Edit: And I´d really appreciate some kind of new "road map", yes on that we agree.
I'm not asking for the Encyclopedia to be finished next week, all I want is some indication that something is at least on the drawing board for new content. Communication is golden.

Up to now, I'm quite happy with what the new owners have been doing : never promising something they couldn't deliver and even surprising us with some very good news, sooner than most of us expected. Unlike the previous owners, they really seem to know what the hell they're doing and it feels good to see Atys more alive than ever with old and new faces appearing every day. More and more people are impatient to create a new account and try the game.

I'm almost sure that right now, they are testing not only the stability of the servers and spotting the bugs that need a quick fix, but also, evaluating the potential for income from the community. If they have new content planned, we will hear about it in due time, to continue on that "no false hope" trend. Hell, they even seem to be succeeding where the 2 previous owners failed miserably: advertising.

The new owners have been proving that they actually read and listen to the community. Use that fact carefully and be patient. You might be surprised (again ?) ;)

I think this question has some merit. After all, some of us who may be back, but choose the wait and see approach, are still waiting for more than just the reopening. I have put this game on hold because of the lack of information. Simply put, as a chat server this game works for me. But that's it. When and if the new owners steps up and presents themselves, and tells us their plans as to why they bought it, and this is the plan ahead... Then I will feel comfortable to make decission.

Flipside, the major playerbase seem very happy for all that's done... so it doesn't seem urgent to bother with players like me hehe

Nah, a lot of players are happy for what's been done already, but from what I see there are a lot of players adopting a 'wait and see' approach too. The new owners will have to throw us some breadcrumbs quickly if they intend to keep any of those players around for longer than a week or two. I certainly hope they consider it worth the effort to bother with those players, because I would hate to see them all leave again. :(

Does anyone yet know exactly who the new owners are beneath their name?

Are they a very large mmo company with cash to spend on making a game profitable?

Are they a medium size company that only wants to see what re-opening the game would do and whether it has potential to become bigger?

Or are they the legend of a single very well off player that loves Ryzom and only wants it back in action again with no views whatsoever to hiring devs to come up with new content or making the game into a cash making business?

Maybe I missed something where this was all sorted out, but before you start getting your hopes up and deciding that once it's back it's here to stay with another closure being impossible and the only way to go being new content, maybe first we need to know who actually owns it now.... After all, 'Admin' or 'Spiderweb' hasn't really opened any doors onto this.
