I would like to remind the incoming of new players to already banckrupt Ryzom :) the Silan was like crowded and ppl stayed there made all quests and got smth to do more - that's the key - its neverending story :)

So if even worst advertisement (banckrupcy) lured new players what can happen with good positioned advertisement? And - remove quest rewards from silan - it makes players to think they will get items on mainland from quests and it is wrong and it is really good that it is wrong :)

They might decide at the very beginning to bring back Ryzom as it is right now to have a pool of players and that way, starting brining a bit of profit. But then after a few months, start bringing in changes into the game.

As someone said, (Faa probably) If they are spending a load of money on a product, they would have to be pretty naive or just plain stupid not to have done an analysis beforehand. That aside I think your beliefs are misguided. Spiderweb (or whoever) are first and foremost a BUSINESS, and it is the business that failed, not the product and changes they NEED to make are to their business strategy, not necessarily the product itself. If the product was not thought to be viable in the first place, they would not have bought it.

Faa made some very valid points which i aggree with.
in my view i fail to see the advantage of making ryzom into a Wow clone as for starters that market is all ready well catered for, but what there seems to be a big gap in the market is a game that appeals to the mature gamer.
many of the people that play ryzom have tried many other games and i bet that most if not all found anything to compare to the freedom that ryzom gives the player i know i certainly did not and i tried a few.

Ryzom would flourish if advertised to the right people its a marmite game you either love it or hate it, and you without doubt get out of ryzom what you put in no spoon feeding and quick fix to be found, thats what makes it the most amazing game for myself its got everything and yes its not perfect but with a stable profitable population could easy be tweaked and fine tuned.

i still see the main failings of previous owners as this badly targeted advertising or lack of advertising pretty much most of the population that plays is all from word of mouth and its even more surprising how many people have never heard of the game when they really should have.

market ryzom as a mature game with complete freedom of play and i think the new owners would be surprised of how many people would start playing.
downside to the mature audience is we demand excellent service where as kids seem far happier to deal with lag/bugs/exploiters older people tend to have less tolerance of such things.

but whatever the choices made by the new owners we look forward to walking the mean streets of atys soon..... well today would be nice :D

As for changes to the product, fixing a few little things and completing some unfinished things would probably be more beneficial than new features or changed features. A more stable networking stack would be nice, too.

Other than that, I agree that business plan adjustments need more attention than product changes.

I'm eager to see what happens. Really eager. Really really eager please please with money on top!!!!

Its all been said before and while I agree with you, why open a new topic for it when several other threads already discuss this?

Still thinking about doing a full 3d rendering of Fyros (call it Ryzom 3.0 if you like).

Erm, actually, no, not right at all - sorry Faa :)
The universe began in 1970, when UNIX was born, and when epoch time dates from. (epoch time is the number of seconds since 01-01-1970 00:00, although if you are going to be pedantic about the issue, development on UNIX was actually begun in 1969).
There were computers before this, too, but widespread academic adoption didn't really begin until the UNIX era. However, many, many people worked with computers in '97.
A side-effect of this is that anyone claiming to be older than 38 is clearly lying about their age.

Hehe yes you're right, but I'm talking about computers for people other than CS, math classes and geeks ,), in short it's about - horribile dictu - Windows, sorry for my generalization, but it has no relevance to start here with Blaise Pascal, does it?
Of course there were Atari (great graphics btw), and some other platforms for games between say 85 and 95, and UNIX and Wax for CS and math people. Cmon, in '95-'97 some people - pretty much a minority - were still playing MUDs.
For people born with computers it may seem that computers were available for everybody at the same time at the same age, actually it depends a lot on their profession, personal interest and country.

I am pretty sorry about such generalization as age, won't comment but *chuckle*.
