Hehehe Actually it's not a "a friend of mine "... thing, but hell yeah! although maybe not as impacting as my "making a point" examples, Ryzom has affected me (during many years) both in good and in bad ways.

To answer your question, I would say that, indeed, I do think I've played Ryzom *too many hours* and that sometimes, I've chosen to play rather than doing other supposedly *healthier* activities. I've refused to go out, chosing to stay and why not play (my choice ) and it has messed my sleep habits, although I am getting older and even if I want to stay up, I fall asleep

Fortunately, my *admitted* addiction has not affected me professionally or personally. Also, the fact that I took breaks, and that and the end the novelty was clearly wearing off and I was bored of Ryzom helped me to stay sane....

And my PvP tag is off....

What can I say here.....this is the only peice of internet program I wait and wait for to return.....I made some good friends in the guild I was in, they helped me out without question or reason .. just made me new armour and gave me like 3 Mil in money, I was like WHOA , I went on some "outings" with them and they got my levels up in like two days..still slower than would have hoped BUT I had set all my skills wrong and just had to wait...BUT they helped me get somewhere, took me in and gave me a sence of presence and worth..I was stocked and proud of the guild and the people who made it.

I hope that they hear of the return and come back and be part of this again....I will and will drop ALL other online games like a hot rock..

Ryzom mainly caused arguments with the wife for the following reasons..

* Accidentaly pulling 4 kincha's because they popped on me! then running away so I could save her. According to her I did it deliberately and ran away because I was a coward. I suppose I should not have laughed.

* Having better armour than her and not letting her wear it. (dont want it smelling of perfume).

* Arranging op battles (that I have never done!) when I already arranged to take her out.

* Just digging to the next level but diggin through 10 when we have visitors.

For me Ryzom was part cure part cause. it was an escapism like no other. it made me feel good about myself but because I was on-line I was unable to sort out my problems. It was a downward spiral.

I failed to complete my first degree due to problems that I wasn't able to sort out due to me escaping to Ryzom to get away from those problems.

Fortunately I was able to pull myself away for long enough to sort myself out and I'm now able to enjoy a more casual gaming style.

I dread a reset since I'd never have the time to grind up all my levels again.

And the weight thing.... I lost weight because I just didn't eat, which is just as unhealthy.

Like with anything take things in moderation and all will be fine.

It made me feel like I had a duty to do whatever I could to help make the game enjoyable for everyone, and like my actions could actually help make a difference. An attitude that I hope carried over into the real world a litte.

That was the most fascinating thing in ryzom to me. How (most of) everyone was jumping to help me in any way. And I mean also things for which people indeed spent hours and spent rare items for free...

so I got me myself this habit ig in the first place, but also I think in RL a bit. being a bit more helpful and also asking a bit more for help... noticed people in RL too like to help quite often.

and of course I wasted hours&hours not seeing the sun. getting me the classy pale look that would have been appreciated so much some centuries ago

it was years before ryzom that anyone would have called me fit, so no effect on that..

I have learned typing fast.

Ryzom is a highly educational piece of software, it encouraged me to learn about:
- C# (lots of my tools are written in this)
- LUA (custom ring components)
- Reverse engineering file formats (mats)
- C++ (another programming language)
- NeL (the ryzom engine)
- 3dsmax (started working with that too)
- DirectX (graphics stuff)
- And lots of other stuff ...

It also got me lots of people on my contact lists in msn and google talk and whatever.

And this is what I'm now studying.

In the beginning Ryzom was an Escape for me while I was going thru a bad time in life. It soon turned into an addiction.

I met some great friends and was able to do some traveling to meet them.

Ryzom has taught me alot but Im too lazy to actually type it all out here.

Oh, Ryzom has made me very lazy.
