Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

My guess is : if the liquidators are intelligent enough and want to obtain a good price from the buyer, they want to preserve the remaining playerbase, that and the newcommers who bought retail boxes to be able to access the mainland.

1) Remaining playerbase
2) Potential playerbase

Even if the numbers aren't high, a game without players or people willing to play (and pay subs) isn't worth much. If they pull the plug, they lose both in in less times than it takes to spell "bankruptcy".

Oh of course, the digital property ought to be included. I just wondered if data since the bankruptcy declaration would be included/passed on.

Well Sherk, you might be right. You're so smart. No wonder I thought you were so cool!

Most Game Forge games are free to play browsergames with optional premium accounts and item shops (I know what you all think about that). Even their PoS asian MMO (Metin2) is free to play. Yet they still generate enough income with their "optionnal" paying products to host several servers per language version of each game and to release new servers regularly. Of course, a PhP game isn't as big as a MMO, but they still receive thousands of visitors a day. There goes the bandwith.

This is only pure speculations, but considering they don't have to pay for developers anymore, hosting Ryzom probably doesn't cost them that much to host, since they got such a "great deal", probably because of what they are already hosting at the same place. If they were really so greedy for hosting space, they would already be hosting something else instead of Ryzom on that pre-paid. Something that brings in an income of some kind to compensate with their failure on Ryzom (and pay the debt to the liquidator).

My point is, they could have shut down Ryzom long ago, yet we've been able to play it for months. I don't think Ryzom uses that much bandwith compared to all their other stuff, simply because there is much, much less traffic. If anything, they'll probably renew the hosting and use it for something else as soon as Ryzom is sold (and probably moved elsewhere, yet again).

Ryzom would probably have been sold a while ago if the French authorities hadn't been so absurdly slow in realising that there was still a debt to the previous liquidators on the game's ownership. Now let's just hope that I'm right about the hosting and everything should be fine... ...as long as we're not stuck in such a situation for a year.

OKAY ! I was wrong... but you obviously deleted the most important parts : "Let's just hope that I'm right..." and "This is only pure speculations..."

 Seems I had underestimated GameForge's capacity to screw their (previous) customers :(

You are right, post edited -- out of context quotes --. In my defense :o , it wasn't intentional, I overacted trimming here and there :)

We never got true honest communication from them, their CEO-whatever was clearly uncomfortable when confronted / asked about Ryzom (in an interview IIRC), and other than Phelan "best-intentions" irc-chat, their (lack of) actions spoke louder than their (broken) promises...

I can't blame anyone that thinks that GF was an opportunistic player that jumped in for a quick buck when the Ryzom "auction" was made public and who abandoned the ship as soon as they though it appropriate, failing to comply with quite a few obligations -- unethical?-- because we would have little reason to think otherwise (although GF France should not be put in the same basket, they basically had to wear the hat of their owners); but in this case.... we can't expect them to renew hosting services either, and spend one single €/$ in something they clearly have no interest n.
