I was going to say "no, I did not get anything", but looking through the "Spam mail" folder at Gmail teaches me differently.

Like you, I am located in Germany (but playing on Arispotle).
No, I have not given permission to Gameforge to use my personal data for that purpose. Yes, I have read all terms that I have agreed to, and checked them again (including the EULA shown in the game client).

I'm thinking about filing a complaint at the BfDI.

I didn't recive any mails, maybe those who have :
Receive Email
From time to time, the administrators may want to send you email notices.

If you do not want to receive these notices, disable this option.
Receive Email from Administrators

You can allow other members to send you email messages.
Receive Email from Other Members

Turned on, got mails.

Still they shouldn't do it now they have no tie or connection with the game,

FWIW those options are for the forums only - they're standard vBulletin settings.

It seems that all players who are in Germany or France got the emails, but so far none from the UK or USA.

Well, I've written a formal complaint (420 words) to Gameforge about the matter, including a request to cease that activity.
If they ignore me, I'll forward it to the regulatory office.

Maybe that can be easily explained if you assume that Gameforge has the rights to "publish" and operate Metin2 (^which is a Korean game afaik) in Europe?

That said, UK is Europe, right? :p

*in Australia* None here! Though to be honest, I um...am kinda hoping for news of some kind in coming days -- what happens at end of the liquidation period? Everything shuts down...including these forums (who hosts them anyways??)? I guess I better bookmark the refugee site before I forget :(
