Yep, action progression shows your real overall levels.

For each new level you gain 10 points in its area, shown in your personal info window (P). And you spend these training. =)

I can't quite grasp the relationship between my progression in fighting, magic, harvesting and crafting... and the skill points I accrue by doing them.

For example, right now the 'action progression' screen shows me at 12/20 in magic, and the 'p' screen shows me with 7 skill points in magic. I know that skill points increase as I use magic, and that I put these toward better spells. But does the 12/20 determine my magic level, and if so, is that also increasing as I practice magic?

Hope that question make sense.

By using magic to kill monsters your level (12) will increase. For every level you get 10 skillpoints, which you can use to learn new spells, credits, enhancements at a magic trainer.

The tree will split later into offensive / healing magic etc. This is given by the 20. The next step will be at 50 etc etc.

Downside for healing: As you cant use healing spells on yourself, this can only be learned while in team and you *must* use a healing spell, or otherwise wont get XP.

Same for all kinds of skills. To increase combat, use weapons. Harvesting - go digging, Crafting - well craft items.

Your Character is defined by several factors.
Your skill in the various skill trees, which split into sub-trees. So you can be a level 80 offensive mage, and a level 50 defensive mage, and a level 110 2hand axeman all at the same time, or a level 90 forest digger and a level 60 desert digger...
Your stats (strength, intelligence etc) come from your skill levels, with upgrades relevant to the skill buyable every 5 levels. Hitpoints can be upgraded in any tree, but the upgrades come every 10 levels in nnon-fight trees - so you get HP twice as fast by training fight skills.
Your skill level will determine what skills are availab le from the trainers, and what level of equipment you can use, with weapons and armour also requiring stat prerequisites to be met.

Thanks all for the explanations... I think I get it.

So when I go from lvl 12 magic to 13, I'll get 10 more skill points which I can spend. But how do I know how close I am to hitting 13?

Has anyone done a flowchart so people can visualize the interrelationship of exp. points, levels and skill points? That would help dense folks like me.

Hi Tylertoo,

You can press 'b' in the game to see your action progress in each branch (melee, magic, harvesting, crafting). Each branch splits up into more specialized branches after 20, 50, 100, etc.

The ballistic mystix website used to have a graph with xp-progression, not sure if you can find it somewhere else tho...

Nice to see another NWN1 player, perhaps the Ring (Ryzom's scenario editor) is right up your alley?

Just a note about soloing. It's very possible to solo, it's even quite interesting. But leveling will be slower, mostly because regaining your strength between the fights can take a bit of time. And mistakes will more often lead to death as you solo play.

Perhaps. Have you tried it? Is coding difficult?

Well I just got a newb magic mission that requires that I join some others and kill 10 somethingorothers. The game's way of pushing newcomers out the door, I suppose. Clever, because otherwise I'd have been too shy to join others at this early stage.

To get others to help, is it good form to simply ask with /around in chat?

tylertoo wrote:I'm glad you find my question so amusing, but the mission says 'fight spell', so I (quite naturally) assumed it was a spell that provides a temporary enchantment on your weapon, and possibly was offered by the fight trainer.

I guess in Ryzom there are such things as dumb questions.
I´m sorry.

I did not mean to laugh at you, or mean any offense.
I just found it quite funny thats all :)

The best way to get help on Silan is perhaps asking in Region chat. Also, for specific game-related questions, you can ask those in Universe. Around chat isn't bad either, but will ofcourse have less audience.
