Sad to see

I don't post very often because I've found in the past that forums often bring out the worst in people. But today I feel compelled to post because it saddens me to see the events of recent days.

I've been around MMOs for a long time, played a few here and there and one thing is common in all of them. At some point someone does something wrong and gets in trouble for it. Then the lies allegations, counter allegations and just plain garbage start to spew from players like a torrent of sewage from a burst pipe.

People will infer lots of things from the chat log that was posted. But from experience i can tell you when a MMO company gives you an official chat they phrase their responses for effect. The fact that Vince stated that nothing was found in the investigation says clearly that no improper actions were uncovered in the investigation.

When he states the team will be restructured he didn't say he fired anyone, but I'm sure that is what some people want to believe. Who knows he could have! But they also could have quit, they could have found other positions in the staff, their computer might have exploded into flames and they wont be online again till next years income tax return is received! The truth is no one knows, and speculation and rumor mongering just further harms the community at a time some people have drove a wedge into its heart.

Are we so petty that we have reduced ourselves to not using our brains to read and decipher what is so plainly laid out before us? Or would we rather just blindly accuse and then stand righteously indignant because there is no way that we could be wrong. That by god if my side loses or a decision is made against it the CSRs are cheating so and so's.

Would we think GameForge is so incompetent that they cant find account sharing by looking through their logins of CSRs? I seem to remember they had no problem when they took action in the past about CoC violations that included rampant account sharing.

For god's sake people use your heads and stop this silliness before you drive even more subscribers from the game. Because it doesn't matter what you think about the CSRs or the other faction if there's no game to play.

I love it how people say most of my guild were CSRs...

Given the Samsara was 15+ active players that means we were most of the CSRs...

Funnily enough someone else mentions a Kara guild contained many CSRs.

I wont comment on anyone elses previous positions (real or imagined) as despite the release of Jolt NDAs, its still a violation of their privacy (and potentially the UK data protection act, read up on that people spreading such things :) ).

Wether or not I was a Jolt CSR is entirely irrelevant to my ban (or should be, who knows if current CSRs have any residual bitterness for their own lack of opportunities in that situation) at least from my perspective.

If you really want to know for sure, ask me privately. Anything else is just rumour.

I was a little miffed my case was brought up like that without warning, ya shoulda asked me please Kye! (And where did you get that transcript of my ban letter? you missed out some of the best bits!)

Assuming my ban were rescinded tommorow (I am discussing it in private with the proper persons), I may or may not resubscribe. Ryzom is not the universe. If I do resubscribe, I will ask for Wallo to be renamed as Zahan, that period is over.

I am not going to comment on the specifics of the petition. The overall effect of producing tighter controls and monitoring of CSR activities is in my mind purely beneficial, no matter how it came about. Volunteers are a wonderful thing, but they are also the people you have to watch closest because they do not rely on their volunteer work for a livelyhood. They have less to lose. This was no doubt true under Jolt, and should be true in ANY situation.

I hope you are all having fun in Ryzom, maybe it is worth coming back to if so.

Zahan.
For Wealth and Glory! For the Samsara!

I agree with the topic - it is good to see!

It is good to see people trying to make Ryzom their own. It is good to see people arguing for justice and fair play. It is good to see passions causing trouble. It is loads better than East Enders!

But, I'm sorry CSRs, you can't join in :( . No, no extras are required. Honestly, our books are full. Come back in January and we'll check again.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand exactly what you mean. Maybe it's because I'm a froggy French Canadian or maybe I'm just dumb... What is it with the CSRs not allowed to join in ?

It's simple. A csr is NOT a player.

Who better to understand the community? I don't see why they can't be both. People can actually put bias aside, and if they couldn't, I doubt they would be accepted as a CSR. Many people did not know CSRs were players until a short while ago, and before they did I didn't hear many complaints about bias, I only heard positive things for the most part. I agree with the posts before me, its a small team. They are doing the very best they can, and we need to cut them some slack. If a player is banned, its not because that CSR happends to hate that person, its because they broke the CoC. Close your mouth and open your ears, you might just learn something.

This post was not ment to be pointed at Jamela, Kami, Karavan, Neutrals, or anybody else. Just a general post for the ryzom community. :)

I don't know how many times this will have to be repeated.

The fact is that CSR team is mostly composed of unpaid players, giving out on their playing and real life time to help the community so other players can have a good time. Why would they want to give up their ingame time to help the community without being paid if they did not love the game/community ? How would they have come to like a game without having played it ? Where did they gain their experience and knowledge of Ryzom if not ingame ? Do I have to give more proofs ?

Maybe (and most likely) a character that you know ingame and enjoy playing along with is a CSR playing incognito and you don't know it. It is highly possible, in fact, because, of course, this secret identity won't be revealed (that's the meaning of incognito). CSRs do have the right to play anonymously, so they can play without being harassed, just like any normal human being playing the game. Their player account is probably completely different from their CSR account so they don't benefit any CSR power while playing.

CSR have 2 modes : player and CSR. While in CSR mode, they don't play. While in player mode, they don't officially do Customer Service. (Although any intelligent player can answer questions on Uni channel) They surely know the difference between the two roles. Most ignorant players don't.

Which leads to some ridiculous accusations about the CSR staff having a bias towards a faction/player. Most of the time, CSRs care about the factions about as much as I do OOC ; which means absolutely not and I'm pretty sure about that. Or else they wouldn't have been hired/would have been fired. There has been a serious investigation about their integrity and, as I expected, nothing wrong was found.

The fact is, the accusation against them was quite unfair as the movement was launched (at the very beginning) by ill-willed people using propaganda and disinformation. In fact, I think it is not the CSRs that that seemed to have a bias against the players, but the players that had a bias against the CSRs because of what they read and innocently believed.

Before throwing rocks at me, I understand that people who thought to be in front of a huge injustice would want it to be investigated seriously. Even though I never could believe any of those accusations, simply because they were too scandalous to be true, I also think that the questions asked by Yaffie were very relevant and contained what most people really wanted to know. But this time, it seems that the injustice that has been done was towards the CSRs as the investigation ended up showing that they were not guilty. I am not accusing Yaffie of wanting to get at the CSR or anything either. He was just a spokesman for the players, as Vince was for the CSR team, so the Klient interview wouldn't be lost in too much chaos and nonsense.

Call me a crazy fool, I don't care. I still have plenty of marshmallows left to grill at your flames. I'm maybe just a newbie in this game, but I still know what a CSR is.

as much as i agree with most of the latest posts i have to ask :

what the hell has this thread got to do with welcoming new players ?

I'm not going to bother ranting about it, although I have a strong desire to do so, but is it really that hard to go on the general section ? all it takes is a click.

The reason this thread is not in the General forum, is because it was created by a trial account user :)

It's as simple as that. The fact is that, otherwise, because of board writing limitations for free trial accounts, we wouldn't even be able to express ourselves about it in the General Section. There is already a topic in there to which this one could simply be merged. But then, we would be completely muted, as we can't say a word on the General board.

I'm just happy that for once I can express myself on a "general" topic about which i do care. Usually I just can't. And it gets quite frustrating sometimes to just read and say nothing.

I don't have anything else to add for the moment...
