The PvP is no more distracting then everyone saying "hello" or *sips ale. I would caution against anything that limits the free style of play.

This was an announcement by a royal herald to the Matis People. I would think it safe to say if events had not become extinct, the majority of players present would have passed on this announcement.

This afternoon should be a tad bit more trying as the items are handed over by exchanging from one bag to another. It will take awhile.

Consensual PvP Different types of PvP combat coexist in The Saga of Ryzom, and - since not everyone likes PvP - you can choose whether or not to get involved. If you are looking to engage in players combats, the game offers various possibilities: Duels, GvG, FvF and full PvP.

What would you expect to happen if the king were making a speech, and suddenly people in the crowd would start fighting and shouting out for the destruction of the city? He'd pause his speech and sent his guards in to arrest them all, most likely.

If the event character just goes on with his speech oblivious to the fact that the crowd is doing more fighting than listening, than that's a little immersion-breaking, yes ;) But that's as much the CSRs' failure as it is the players' fault.
This is what prompted my questions. I wondered how many people really would prefer this action during events and if they thought it effected them badly. What if theres several people PvPing, are the CSR going to remove them all? What happens if they come back and start up again, would tougher punishment then be considered on such a large group?

I quite like the idea of the guards intervening, perhaps gag and baging the troublemakers? hehe. However, that seems alot of work and not all events are going to have a city sized guard force to realistically deal with them.

Are the speaches then supposed to pause until the PvPers get bored? =)

Would be really pathetic to see that...
People are using exploit in this game, and are not punished. And you're talking about punishing someone because of roleplaying ?
Does the world have to stop, some rpers stop rping because of an event ?

I'm really impatient to see what GameForge will do.

They shouldn't be allowed to come back at all for the duration of the speech. Ideally, the guards would throw them in jail for a while. That's a bit beyond game mechanics, but we know the CSR's can send the guards after players, and we know they can root players in the spot back where they respawn, so that's close enough.

If you want tougher punishment, how about a penalty to their Matis fame too, since they did anger their king? Do it often enough and the guards will start to remember you and attack you the second you set foot in Yrkanis :p

If there isn't a city sized guard force around.... well, that fancy pike isn't just for decoration, let the king take care of the troublemakers himself :D

Though that would probably just encourage them.... seriously though, most speeches are in cities. The only one I can think of that wasn't was the one in the Nexus, and that was only because it wouldn't make sense to have Wyler killed with a city sized guard force around. As far as I know there's been no other speech event outside of a city.

It's different when we're out in the field to stop the kitin and suddenly half of the army starts fighting eachother, ofcourse. Then I'd expect the event character leading the army to see the PvPers as deserters and just leave them behind while moving on with those that are really interested in fighting the kitin, for example.

Would be funny and great if the Royal herald went back inside, and then guards came running out (since its just 2 CSRs) and "nuked"/"arrested" the ATTACKING force.

To be honest, I would love that.

hehe, more good ideas, esp the fame, sounds cool.

There has been some trek events though, all over many lands and not always gunna be heavily armed one man armys. :p

I suppose it's early days and we shall have to see but it seems like at some point to keep storylines flowing smoothly without too much disruption some outside interference maybe required because as soon as NPCs or player controled NPCs start attacking people the argument is gunna be, well why can't we attack back?

Nobody ever used to complain when they turned DP off.

Turn it back on. But give 50-100k off for each pvp kill you have.

RP should not stop during these events, The Roleplayers will note the actions and words of all participants...and modify their CHARACTER reaction to them at the next meeting.
I am sure there will be some interesting encounters and conversations following the events of the presentation....These are the repercussions I am looking forward to ;) .

A roleplayer does not have enable/disable tags :D
