Oh and another thing.. can people challenge each other everywhere? if yes.. then are there players who just challenge others without asking first?.. that also happens a lot on WoW

Does people use leet speak in public.. like "hey u I'm lvl 34 now, you wanna duel?"?... IC there is normally not something like lvl.. there are skills, so that's normally considered non RPing
People can challenge people anywhere, but I have only seen one person doing it often.

and I have never, in the months that I have been playing, seen anybody using n00bs33k.
they use terrible abbreviations, true, but nothing beyond that.

and levels are reffered to quite often.

I guess I'll just have to ignore the speaking of levels? I can do that.. though it's does get annoying when it happens often

Welcome Zhaky :) .

Quoting myself from a recent reply:

"The Ryzom community is extremely roleplay friendly - try talking in character and almost anyone you meet will happily return the favour and talk back in character (completely different to my experiences elsewhere, where abuse and derision seemed almost de rigeur). Roleplaying is mostly pretty loose and casual, and this all makes it easy for someone to find their feet ... There are a few very sound guilds that make much more of it..."

Enforced roleplay? Certainly not, Ryzom players enjoy great freedom. Atys is very short of props, though. Furniture is purely decorative, for example, as are all the barmen. Hmm, maybe decorative isn't quite the right word for the barmen :p . I think you'll find more respect between people here than most anywhere else, even on Silan amongst the Free Triallers.

Ahh ok, was an over reaction from me to your choice of words then :)

I've never seen any roleplayer get insulted for roleplaying. That's bad behaviour and I can't see anyone in the community here supporting it.

You can challenge people anywhere. I've never been challenged myself but if someone was using it to harase you, fill out a report and the GMs will help. I haven't needed to ask for GM help recently but responce times used to be a few minites.

I've seen some bad abbrivations now and then but never leet speak. Speaking about your levels in skills does happen but off hand I don't remember it happening in local chat and I've never seen a 'hi I'm whatever level want to duel?' either. Only duels I saw were from a karavaner picking a sort of in character arguement about the kami.

Edit: you will see people using their level in region chat when looking for teams though

It may be just because of the type of people that I generally team with, so you may find it different.

Zhaky, if you don't wish to hear ooc talk, if you wish to rp seriously then I suggest you disable all the chat channels barring Around, until you actually want to ask for ooc help :) , or join a High-RP guild and their guildchat. Around chat only has a range of about 25m, 40 odd for a /shout, and people are far more likely to talk in character in Around, something I heartily encourage :) .

No sure if anyone mentioned it but, check the Guild forum here for an RPG guild. I know there are several of them listed. a quick ingame tell or email to the guild leader may open alot of doors and fun for you as well.

I've now figured out how sad it is that I only have the trial.. cause all the RP is said to be on the main island.. other than that I experienced 3 challenges without anyone asking me first.. I experienced two illegal names like werewolf and monkeykid.. and I tried to interact with a few players.. but absolutely none responded.. other than that.. there are a lot of bugs.. well compared to WoW.. and it is quite confusing as a beginner.. thank god I found someone who could help me.. else I wouldn't have done very well

I will still try out the game as I don't expect to have seen it all yet, and I still hope for some nice RP.. though I'm afraid I might have to buy some time, so that I can go to the mainland and find it there

I like the stories and details of the game, and there are a lot of cool options.. they are just very confusing.. I hope to figure it out soon

In all my time upon the mainland I think I have probably experienced only the same as you in your short time upon Silan. That's probably why I am curious, or naieve, about the weight that you give it. I detest spammers, and I know from personal experience that newcomers to the mainland may be spammed by guild invitations, which are annoying but easily dismissed with a click - but I think that situation changed somewhat when Silan was released last year.

Please do persist, Zhaky. Maybe get in touch with a few guild representatives, no strings attached, and I suspect that you may not feel the need to move to the mainland is quite so imperative.
