@hazira: There has been at least one instance of someone completely missing Chiang the Strong on Silan. :p

@calel: If I remember correctly, the City Welcomer offering the locations of various NPCs is a recent addition. Before, the only one that did it was the Fairhaven welcomer and she spoke it in French or something like that. The initial-mainland-arrival mission that asks you to speak to the City Welcomer and starts you on your first rite has been present for as long as I can recall, though.

As far as I know, that, and the fact the Welcommer points out the various npc's, has always been ingame.
But, even so, click every option, read every option, and go to see every one in that option, without nothing to do with them is a bit... mmm... bad way to make your first hours in ml. Not bad if they do a mission more guided. It'll be good for newbs, and inoffensive for veterans.

And, as Katriell sais, is a recent addition xD. I didn't remember that from my coming to Yrkanis...

The thing that concerns me is the "Rewards" , the Silan system (Ranger Armour / Frost,Freezing,Icy Amps / Fire n Wrath) has killed off player Crafting being of any use there , in the old Starter Isles player made equipment was the way to go for increased advancement -Crafters were usefull even at those low lvls

Please dont kill off Crafting on the Mainland too
Zoraï : Master Desert/Forest/Jungle/Lakeland/PR Forager , Master Light Melee Weapon Smith , Jeweler Master , 201+ in All 39 Craft Branchs , All Craft Trainer and Outpost plans -gone walkabout (solo) awaiting new content

I strongly agree with this, don't make the new crafters feel worthless.

I don't think that will happen. Just to see the new bosses... now the aer armour, i.e., has to be crafted, if I'm not wrong.

I think that is the line to follow.

There is a problem of new people getting to mainland and being stuck not knowing what to do next. Certainly, some guidance here would be helpful. Right now that guidance is being provided by guilds. Some guilds do a good job of that.. others don't. But not everyone is going to want to jump into a guild immediately when they come to mainland (and they shouldn't).

110% agree that's why I quit the last time, this is especially true for people that are used to linear progression and are completely lost. I'm not saying we are going to make Ryzom linear, but a clearer indication of what's to be done just to learn the game mechanics would work.

Also I like doing quests just for the sake of doing them, not to be lead anywhere per say or "finish" any story line, cause it shouldn't finish anything, just because I enjoy interacting in the world that way, and it might make npc's look less like standing/walking automatons as many of them are atm.

So I hope they give current npc's that have nothing to say a little dialogue. :)

The players used to come from silan with the basic mecanics learn; I think that this ml starter missions must be some kind of guide about how to play in mainland.

For example, if a player comes to Magestic Gardens, a mission making him go to a place where he will need make some sneaking could be good. Explaining him the basics of sneaking, and the general idea. Because sneaking is something very important to learn in ml. In the same way, that sneaking could brimg them to a cave with an old homin who can teach him the secrets of the harvest in Forest, giving some useful hints for newbs. And so on. A hunter makes him hunt for a lot of skins, and later bring to a merchant who will teach the homin how he can do some money in better ways ("Forage is quicker than hunt, my friend, but you need hunt a lot to improve your combat habilities, or you'll be unable to reach some harder and wealthier spots").

Just some hints for the most disoriented. They point the line to follow; but the homin will need to learn how follow it.

Yes, there is a mission where you have to talk to the city welcomer, which normaly leads you to a barman, where you start the Cubes of Amber rite.

The mission that points out the various npc's was the one on the pre-NPE starter isles.

After a time of guiding newbies, Keiko and me made these newbies guide tours of our native lands. You may find them interesting as area descriptions and pointing through missions steps.
