So, I see absolutely no problem with "having no Z axxis" and If you´d be so kind and show me a Game where it truly is that enemy "Birds" can swoop down upon you from way up high, then I´d be glad to try this too :)
Not to be nitpicky...but there is a game that DOES have that. *cough*WoW*cough* The game that shall not be named. :o

However, I do agree...I don't need jumping to enjoy the game. Flying is another thing...Ryzom is a beautiful world. Would be amazing to see it from high above. Also, I find Sehraci's idea most appealing. ^_^

The game's graphics are beautiful. The animal AI is amazing. There are a bunch of interesting and unique systems.

""And there's someone in the world who wouldn't play it because it has no jump?""

Sorry...
(intro again)
Do u realize for a new player Ryzom is a trial aproach. "i mean no body is waiting, nobody is hyping After 3 years from the begining" so no newcomers means NO PLAYERS"
I myself was waiting for another game to be released when i met Ryzom by chance! I entered the game, well it was looking like a game has cool stuff but not so different from other mmos! To be Honest, i select a zorai character and i was really irritated when i saw zorai chars running animations. THEY just dont have the charizma what i was searchinng on a character! actually i only love pvp but i havent find any chance to play versus player yet in cho server. I really love the comunity, well, i thought i cant have fun in any other game which doenst have such a comunity. This made me to keep on playing this game!
(my point at last)
People has their own importance, people dont think a lot details espicially when there are tons of MMORPG' s out there and giving some stuff as STANDARTS... So Nowadays all games has good graphics, all games has stories, all games has their own character developiing system, all games has gears, armors, swords, hammers, crafting, harvesting, magic, etc. (all games = equivalent types)

So when we start to compare(we = a person who thinks subscribing this game, not you who play this game for 3 years,,,, "i am subscribed for 3 weeks") , they dont even think and look at STANDARTS, They just want different things also RYZOM have(which is an ironi)! BUT AFTER BEING SATISFIED with the STANDARTS! i heard lots of people said, this game looks polish, my char cant pass a fence which looks open!

My advice is: a product should catch the untold standarts of the day for games! I hate WOW, last night my friend showed me the flying mounts, i was a bit ............... who doesnt wana fly over ATYS? lets poll!!!

I see where you are going with it...I agree it would be nice to fly over Atys. Someday we'll have this.
I have discovered that I LOVE doing so many mundane things in this game, crafting, digging. It's not just relaxing, but it feels like you're achieving something.
Keep playing, you'll find things that will make you never worry about what it's missing.
And although english is not your native language...you're doing just fine! :)

With all due respect... That standars, in this kind of game, usually means "NGE".

You know, this is not a one huge kind of game (MMORPG), but is a lot of categories. This game is a sandbox game, very opposite to that standar you say, Wow, a quest-driven-go-there-then-here game.

So, when a friend of me shows me the flying mounts, I show them a OP battle with 100+ people (witch they can't). I tell them "Hey, you have intances. That sucks!". They like that kind of game, and I like this.

And well... so many things to do much better than have an Z-axis, to tell you the truth. If you like this game, don't let that jumpy thing ruin your fun.

You can't have here the same standards than WoW, because this is very different of WoW. I'd love to see here the standards of Oblivion, or the standards of Half-Life 2, but I know it's impossible.

So... don't try t make comparations between WoW and SoR, as you won't do between Oblivion and SoR. They are pointless. If you can enjoy whitch is here, fine, If not... bad luck.

But, speaking about standards, Ryzom is done in such way that it can support 150-200+ players in a place without instances. That's better than a Z-Axis... Ask your friends about that.

Actually, no, Ryzom doesn't need to follow "standards" and in fact there do not need to be standards in the MMORPG world at all. Diversity is not a bad thing. The only reason there are perceived standards is this:
True innovation in the MMOG world is limited, then, by this progression of linked factors:

1. Prior successes are imitated due to the high financial risk inherent in developing any kind of MMOG.

2. As the market has become filled primarily with those imitations, their common formula is what is expected by the players.

3. The narrow spectrum of game structures accepted by the targeted audience creates even higher risk for developers who want to make something unique and genuinely revolutionary, so either investors will not back their projects or their projects fail at some point.
The sooner diversity increases among MMORPG games, the better for the genre as a whole. Ever noticed how much variety there is in other game types, yet only very few themes and mechanical structures are "allowed" in MMORPGs? You who ask for an identical set of basic features to be implemented across all MMORPGs, are a problem.

Agreed, Katriell. Though I do think it is fair to expect some standards in a virtual world which clearly relies upon our familiarity with certain things in Real Life, like humanoids, plants, fungi, insectoids, ... gravity ;) . That wasn't quite how valithan was putting things, though.

Naturlly A customer doesnt know what he/she wants, but He/She does realy know what He/She doent want!
well,
as a person who worked for an advertisement company, i myself tried to explain why i am said. As and advertiser(i dont know if i can call myself like this, actually i am an engineer :) ) anyways, as an advertiser or let me say supporter of this game, i need arguments to explain little things!

First of all i am not comparing ryzom with any other game till now,i didnt want to at least. i passed that time, but new people who doesnt catch the real motivation about ryzom will probably use such things as negative arguments! u can easly understand i am not using this as a negative one!

YES, Ryzom gives me a lot of arguments, i am using them. The Best comunity i have ever seen, The best skill system in 3D MMORPGS after ultima online(2d) imo, The best possible character variations, The beautiful world which reacts with living creatures, the best feeling that you feel you are doing something while playing instead of stupid "levelling chalange" in other games.

BUT, all these are really not fit for RYZOM while advertising. Let me explain why! Ofcourse Ryzom's playing still is different from other games; quest giving-taking something, killing 10 mobs, etc. i know this. But i also know that although Ryzom has an anti-static environment InsidE, it really has a STATIC developing line OutsidE! At least i understood this while playing. This makes it really hard to explain a new comer why he/she shouldnt care a Z axis problem in their minds. Their answers are ready! (i really made good advertisemnt to my environment, coz i wana share this game with them)
That answers are not so complex.
i have an offer: Just imagine!, Put more mounts and flying stuff in ATYS, pet system that u can tame stuff! And USE WORD OF MOUTH as an advertising campaign, Ryzom will need more servers to open!
in 2004 may be there wasnt enough social mmorpg player in the world, but now the market has reached its marginal cost! ofcourse there will always be new players around, but new players doesnt care so much about details anymore! look at the share ratios of games in the market u can understand what i am trying to mean. How is it possible that WOW, or guild wars, or other same stuffs has the best ranks after 3-4 years? THEY are doing one thing really great! Using Word of Mouth! with what? An example, my flatmate and her job friends are searching a game for playing, i had my friends mind but she couldnt have her friends mind for RYZOM! Thats why i am sad! One of them was also playing World War II online and told me if he selects a aviation carier, he can kill lots of tanks from above by bombing, bla bla! why i should DOWNGRADE my standarts he says! Answer him if u can!
pls take No Offense!

first off, to be the one that gives you a real answer to your question:

the game is predominantly 2D, because that makes it possible to make it 2D on the server, which reduces the number of calcuations necessary by an order of magnitude, resulting in quite a lot lower maintenance costs and, for the player, in almost no lag.
to compare, in other mmorpgs that are fully 3d, there's server lag as soon as 100+ players get together in the same place; in ryzom you can have fights with twice that and ZERO lag aside from the normal connection from you to the rzm servers.
to add the third dimension to the engine would require a complete rewrite and what's worse, would probably negate the advantages i mentioned above.
ONLY so you can jump...

as for viewing the world from above, perfectly possible:

as for following standards... sorry, but never. if nevrax did that, such things would be impossible:

Ambika, haven´t you read what I wrote? Oo

Bats "walk" with their wings and whatever...
I didn´t see a Bat in the Ghostlands swooping down on my from above yet?
They awalys approach me at about head hight, just like a Yber, or a Javing or whatever... ONLY the fyling mounts and the transportation is such as he wants it.
We´ve got teleportation, so what do I need a flying mount for? ;)

And the thing with viewing Atys from above is, that A LOT of the deatils would go missing. If you use a certain "hack*" so to say, you´ll be able to hav a short look from above and you´d be dissapointed, trust me.
I undid it after a time. *shrug*
