Tactics vary, how effective they are is arguable, but the best tactic is "outnumber your enemy".

To win a round: you must either kill all of, or defend at least one guard (depending on which side you are on).

Holding a spot (pretty much any spot that isnt an aggro or yelk spawn) is _much_ easier than advancing as people that are moving are not casting and probably not swinging a melee weapon.
I couldnt disagree more, its not always about numbers. An organised group of 20 can beat a group of 30+ hands down.

I would say its about people knowing their roles, sticking to their roles and taking commands at the right time.

Maybe with a good organization from everyone and a very good leader could be possible beat a 33% numerical inferiority. If there aren't Yelks, of course.

But From the very first battle I played (Two months ago or so :P ) I've always thinked that a better way for order transmission is needed. I'd love to have a chat window, or better, that the leader orders appear in the upper part of my window so I always can see that. I *really* think that it could be a big boost to tactics in OP battle, and very easy to implement, I think.

the other side of having a better system for command orders
is that the commanders need to be able to see what is happening. This isnt something that Ryzom particularly supports - either you're in the crowd and cant see past the crush and pretty lights, or your back someplace and getting everyone turned into cardboard cutouts as your PC struggles to deal with everything going on... and the pretty lights.
All respect to those that do take command and bring some order to the chaos. Other games implement special "commander views" (tribes, natural selection, savage.. probably many others ) but Ryzom tactical command-and-control is 'unsophisticated', or alternatively.. has considerable scope for improvement

I as healer that has been to over 20 op battles can tell you one thing: If the healers of your team look anywhere else but the team chat and team window - they are useless... Healers should concentrate on hp/sap/stam bars an в keep em from dropping - they only move if have their team leader tell them(or whole team) to do so.

Attack is really hard cause your team consists of different units that fight and move and generally behave differently. Though I'd not compare healers to cattle lol I'd say we are the equivalent of army forage trains - vulnerable but precious and deciding every battle naturally :D

I will say that total lack of tactic within a team will surely bring it down. If the team is built without regard of what they plan to do in the battle, it can get very messy.

A team built with a clearer view on it's objective have a significant higher rate of success. Provided the team stay focused and adapt to the battle situation.

Very true.

If your army can organize so that squad leaders have control of thier teams, and are listening to direction from the army leader, you have a pretty good chance.

Sadly, the more players there are in an area, the more they begin to resemble cats. So the most common tactic is to get as many players as you can, point them in a general direction, and hope enough of them get there to hurt the enemy.

its all about moving healers in attack, and protecting healers in defense.

there are other small factors in an OP that can affect the outcome but if you dont get the healing right you lose

i would say that the Radar is the Biggest problem in an OP battle ,when the Radar would only be 25m in OP Battles, then Different tactics would work alot better cause nobody can see the attacking group from far away and think about what they want do..The Attackers could maybe attack from 2 Sides and the Defenders wouldnt see that till the attacker are close enough ,i guess it would make Fun witha 25m Radar or without Radar and the Chance to win maybe on OP is higher

Communication is the key, having a team in voice communication is a hell of a lot faster for giving orders than by typing, and people get excited in battles, often not seeing written stuff on the screen, but if its blowing in their ears, it works alot better. =)

good point ,but i see a lil Prob with it ,what is when 20 ppl are on Teamspeak and all the ppl are talking together?? i dun think anybody would understand any orders then or understand differnet things and at the end they all would run around like chickens :D and they dunno what to do
