Animal taming is part of the lore and at one time was planned for the game.
I hope that as the game grows they find the time to add this skill.
I would love to have pets that could guard me :)

If I could:

-train my pet to chase away any herbivores within a 10m radius while digging
-have him tag that 1st aggro and give me a sec or 2 to "amp up".

it would suit me just fine.

But there's two or three skills being talked about here and maybe I'll throw in a 4th which could open up a whole new series of skill trees:

1) Traming a pet (methinks herbs only, no kitin....control lasts as long as you in animal's presence ....i.e. tp away )
2) Controlling an animal (aggros only...You cast this spell aggro will attack next mob you hit...again no kitin)
3) Using other animals for mounts....no kitin of course
4) Summoning spell (a la "The Summoner" - summons some mob to defend you and party....still no kitin....vorax varynx ok)

I'd like to see that skill tree hard to get.....to make as an "end game" type of thing....like for example, only after having mastered 1 skill in each of the four main categories (melee/magic/forage/craft).

I think that they should also add "Bio engineers" to the game as well because even on RoS there were missions to kill genetically altered plants that the Matis had made when we re-emerged from the roots, And in the lore it is stated or assumed the we Matis also engineered Yubos and possibly frippos.

I remember what first attracted me to the game was an article which mentioned "building craft" ... other than the temples, we haven't really seen that and it wasn'ta s if we really "saw" anything happen there anyway other than a % complete bar

nothing agains combat pets. I loved them in my former mmorpg.
But sometimes they fit in a game an sometimes they ruin the feeling of another game.
It's not always an attribution to the world.

I'm sure that pure combat pets would make this world more agressive
Maybe pets as compagnion, who can be learned small tasks like, look for source, or look for that mob, or that mpc.....

Or, go get my amps, shoes and newspaper
(just kidding)

What i'm trying to say is : there is so much in this world to enjoy, let us enjoy what there is, and forget features other games gave us.
We left (well i did) other games, so, it's useless to compare features of completely different worlds.

I have to disagree with you.....Personaly every game that has had pets in them, I have found that particular aspect to be one of the best. If I must bring up an old game that was perfection in style and design then I must bring up the tamer skills in Ultima Online, it made the game that much better....just like this game could use, new improvments such as this could only make things better. Only problem would be if it was buggy and untested before they implented it.

Obviously a skill the Matis would excell at, although some of their previous work needs further refinement ( Trying to redeploy trained military Psykoplas when the enemy changes axis of advance is no easy task - even for the elite combat gardeners of Yrkanis, but at least you know they wont run from the enemy )

Ragus, frippoes, even Gingos were all supposedly once domesticated, but the combat system would need a major overhaul for them to be truly effective - whats the point of Frippo/Wombai drain ability if mobs dont USE sap/stamina, or a kamikaze attack Yelk when critters (and outpost guards I'm guessing) can suck Yelk farts all day with no ill effects :(

The thing with the Yelk-farts *LOL* is that before release the other MOBs were actually effected by these, but it was taken out, because it was too easy to exploit. It´s unrealistc for sure, but it´s better than pulling any MOB on them to get them killed to kill the other MOB. ;)
