i am a new player and a more then casual gamer (i.e. sometimes 7 hours a day, sometimes i dont even play 2 days) and i have accses to cats. I dont like them, they get away the joy of leveling myself up, but since everyone is using them it is like impossibe to say no, i am competive so i will use them if i can... but to get back to my point, saturday i made 28 levels in elelmental magic in 3 or 4 hours, imho that is way to fast for any game, with this rate i will lose the grip this game has on me faster then without those cats..... again imho, people who dont have the time shouldnt play a MMORPG.... or should accept the fact they will always be behind, why cats should make that good beats me tbh.

You don't have to use them just cos others do.
There was no cats when I started playing ; I never used any (maybe I tried a stack or two) and will never do. I think just like you that they ruins the fun of leveling, to me they are spoilers only good to trade for good stuff.

I guess it's easier for High level players not to use 'em nowadays, but still I consider myself a powerleveler and do level quite fast without them even faster than some who actually do cats.

And htere are a lot of games that work like that, that's because that games are full of kiddies. I think this game points to a more mature people, people usually with a job and less time, but, in the end, paying the same month fee. So, if they take a little care of them, it could be a good commercial strategy.

It's a balance between motivate the players with less time, and don't burn the players with a lot of time. But this game have a great range of options for players that archieve one 250 lvl (elder players), so that isn't a big problem, I think.

The low rate players will eb always behind, with cats or without cats. It's more a matter of motivation (And adv-rate adjustment) than a matter of equality. You'll do levels five times faster than me with or without cats.

I get ur point dont worry, only thing is that i dont like is that the skill i love (magic) will be capped in lets say 1 month.... this a major flaw i think IF u want the players who are more active then "normal" players and willing to give up time (i have job, social life to take care of) to reach the endgame that fast. again imho.

Cats I suppose also are one of many factors encouraging people to join a guild for access to the Outpost system, certainly there are many good reasons to join a guild but this is one. I didn't really understand what a cat was until I joined a guild, and the main reason to join a guild IMO is for the social experience and larger-scale activities, but still being in a guild has advantages and access to cats is one of them, as I see it.

They are also a medium of exchange (see the trading boards) and good will between allies.

I can see the argument that they are a bit habit forming but hey, there are a lot of levels to grind to get really good at what you want to do, especially if you want to do a variety of things fairly well eventually.

EDIT: I suppose you could make a similar claim against "Speeding Up Skill" in that it causes people to run past the beautiful vistas and not appreciate the regions as much, so why don't we make everyone walk ;)

thread is tl;dr.

I have yet to see a single feline in this game. Only canines.

I hope cats are added someday.
