Ryzom's MMORPG.com Rank Slipping?

Y´know what strikes me odd about that ranking?
Everyone is complaning about how "only the games players vote for it" and how only those games with massive amounts of players get good ranikings...

Now, where´s the flaw in theat with Ryzom?

We don´t have a massive Playerbase, only thing we´ve got is a loyal playerbase.
So how come we´re such high on the ladder?
Allright Kostikas re-reveiw a while back gave us a good start but well...
Not all of us know about MMORPG.com and not all of us can vote there.

So how come we´ve got this good ranking?

For me it seems that it´s one of the few rather fair rankings, not influenced by huge amounts of Fans pushing their game. We don´t have that remember.
Allright, some of us may even do this and may even vote Ryzom for best PvP even if they don´t play PvP, wich it is definetly not (just look at a certain Poll here), but those are few.

With all its flaws and troubles, that will just maybe and with a tiny spark of hope be fixed by the new owners I think Ryzom deserves this place at least for its originality.

Well, considering GW shouldn't even be in that list and Ryzom outclasses the other games above it... it's a matter of ranking appropriately to the site, rather than necessarily one's own feelings.

LoL...no doubt, and City of Heroes and City of Villians are both allowed on the list too, which makes absolutely no sense. CoV bein an expansion IMO, but go figure.

I agree. MMORPG's got its plus' and minus', but they do at least a passable job of voting/polling by makin people be at least semi-active members to vote, for that i give em kudos, most places dont give a crap about that at all, so at least it shows some standards on their part.

I think a lot of the ranking of Ryzom comes from the free trial too. Though its kinda neutered now until people can upgrade, it really is a pretty good download for those that are at least looking to try a new game. Silas is a pretty decent starter area too IMO compared to most games, and gives you at least a fair idea of each of the skill branches and a general "flavor" of the game before you even get to go to mainland.

??? and this has to do with the quality of the game how? According to this logic MMORPG should not even cover any other games, just WoW since they have more $$$ and subscriptions than pretty much everyone else combined.

Many other online games have been bought/sold in the past. That doesnt make them less deserving of distinction in my eyes at least, thats just buisiness. If you look at the landscape of games over the course of 10 years, there are rarely any companies that can stay afloat over the long run. Companies that were monsterous back in the 80's early 90's are either long gone or an assest of a larger company and kept only for name recongnition.

I'm sure you didn't even know who the heck blizzard was 12 years ago when they were making 16-bit games like "Blackthorne" (i think thats what it was called anyhow. lol).

okay I hate to say it that makes no sense at all.

firstly when graphics are good they are good the amount of money and subscriber base amount has nothing to do with it. This leads me to believe that people are rating according to hype and peer pressure etc which was a hunch I had when looking at the list (big names but not necessarily the best product and inappropriate placing of things in various categories like best story or value or graphics)

Quite honestly a game can suck at one thing and be really stellar at another I dont see that this is happening with one or two games sweeping all the categories it makes no sense at all at all.

Why You think they don't play them?
I play 3 of the games on the list. Ryzom is just one.

Actually CoH and CoV are both stand alone games. Means, You don't have to buy the other to play one of them.

Well, Guild wars and its expansions are "stand alone" in that you dont need the first to play the 2nd and so forth, but they still call them expansions. Why CoV is the only MMORPG to get to say their expansion is a "Sequal" and have 2 spots on the chart is beyond me. I'm just calling it how i see it, to each their own though friend.
