VM Ware might be another option to consider. Not sure which prog uses less resources but either way you won't get this to work until Late January (with how much resources this game sucks up even at low settings and 2 OS's running at the same time).

Windows XP will recognize more than but not use more than 2 Gb of RAM. With Vista coming out in late January you will be able to do this alot easier with 3-4Gb RAM,

1-2 Dual Core processors with HT

DirectX 10 (uses heaps less RAM and CPU than Directx 9.x)

If you are using Dx 10 then I assume that you are using a PCI-E card (or 2).

This is gonna get pricey LOL. It might be cheaper to just buy a budget box ready to go.

Ok, seems i was very wrong when saying "you cant do it in windows". sorry about that ;-)

it's actually quite simple lol
*** changing game files by hand is something you should not do, you may lose support ***
now, when that's out of the way, lets start.

you need 2 users in your Windows and you need 2 copys of ryzom (you can do it with only one copy, but not recomended).

copy your current Ryzom directory to Ryzom2.
edit client.cfg file in Ryzom2 folder and add this to new line "DisableDirectInput=1;"

get Ryzom2 shortcut to desktop too. modify Ryzom2 shortcut target to
"runas /user:user2 /savecred client_ryzom_rd.exe"

- change user2 to your second user
- remove /savecred if you like to enter user2 password every time
- change client_ryzom_rd.exe to whatever target was before (most probably full "C:\Program...\...\client_ryzom_rd.exe" path)

running...
fire up Ryzom1 and then Ryzom2 (dunno if order is important ;-)
Patching should work too, didnt test that ;-)

Happy alt-tab'ing...

if for some reason it does not work, let me know and i recheck that i didnt dreamed it.
PS! this is tested under Windows XP (Pro SP2) only

one more thing.. if you cant kill yubo with second account healing on same pc, then it's not ryzoms fault ;-)

Why do things the easy way, when complicated is so much more trouble, eh? ;)

Best way to "help yourself" so to speak is simply another PC. I know a few people who do that. And it´s working fine.
Why go through all the trouble of putting more Ram and a new CPU into your System, when a second system with a second monitor right next to your old one does the same and better? Not even speaking of the Graphics-Card.
And no need to alt-tab and maybe loose percious seconds with your system catching up.
Multiytasking yourself may be a way to be "free" and "autonomous", independent from Guilds or other players, and "solo" play may seem easier, but not if you´ll have to alt-tab all the time.
A second Monitor or both Games in Window Mode would surely work in a way, but you´d loose much of the Game itself.

So instead of using halfbaked and halflegal techniques, that will only put a hard strain on yozr current system, just put up a new machine and go for it.

Btw. You can´t loggon with two Charakters from the same account. So a second account is a must in any way.

Just my two cents.
