hehe jacko :)

Well if everything goes to hell id personally like an offline version of ryzom to run around in. Even if it would be terribly sad to not see anyone, would be great to explore again in 10 - 20 years :)

Though id have to make an alt so I could light up universe :(

Absolutely yes.

The game that is now Myst Online survived on player-run shards for some time after its first failed beta.

I hope it won't come to that, and I have doubts if it would even be feasible... But if it's all that can be done to prevent Ryzom from going under, I'd support that.

If it's dead and gone and there's no way for it to ever come back, yeah, I hope they release everything into the wild. Nel seemed pretty complicated to me. I never saw anyone develop anything for Ryzom with it outside the official circles, like a character viewer or something.

Player-run servers, assuming they're even possible for a game like this, would be nice. Hopefully the hardware requirements aren't too huge. The game seems pretty complicated. and also I have no idea if they would consider giving out the server software... it takes a LOT of effort on the part of unofficial programmers to reverse-engineer the servers when someone tries to make player-run servers, and I just don't see that happening for Ryzom. There are too few players.

Uru (Myst Online) had way fewer players, and they ended up hacking together their own server software in addition to what the company released.

I think it is a plausible idea, with a few dedicated programmers and access to the source code. The game would not evolve much...and certainly not very quickly, but it could be kept alive.

The problem with "community Driven" projects is that when everyone owns something, no one does. Who, precisly, has the last say on what features get worked on first. If there is money to be made, of fees to be paid, who deals with them? Should lawsuites happen, or other squabbles crop up, who gets the blame?

There is the ideal, and then there is reality. Reality wins 9 out of 10.

If we all wanted it enough, anything is possible. I am sure amongst us there is the expertise and given lots of posts on here theres lots of experience of MMorpgs. My hubby looked at the code thing and he reckons its infinately possible. There are tons of examples of this sort of thing on the net that have gone from strength to strength...so I say why not???? hmmm call it a player buy out!! I've got £62 in savings if thats any help

If we were even to consider this...it would have to be not for profit I think...thats what a CO OP is alll about

Well, some of us at Leanon have talked this possibility over in TS and we´re fairly positive about it, IF we´d get licensed Code of course. *sigh*
