Talking to an old pre-NGE SWGer last night I realised we were both paying there 4 or 5 accounts each..... with all the mass of bugs and the crappy technical support and all... I dreaded any extension only thinking what new bugs will it bring to us. And still we loved the game. Even people I knew in RL havign pretty few spare money still ended buying a second account.

Now here I never felt the need to have a second account, but I would be happy to spend those money on some 4-5 scenarios that would stay up without me ATK all the time, I would even agree to have a GM inspection on the scenario to see it's ok with the rest of the story before paying for it online, and I am sure lots of us would spend months improving such scenarios.

If I'm not too mistaken there's lots of us who would spend some money on that, c'mon, Nevrax, do something and take them :)

LOL!!!!

If it was the Kitin Secret one, then you didn't have to fight any mobs. Otherwise, I can't make it too easy ya know.

I really can't see that I'd be prepared to pay extra for an editor, however good it was. For players, the editor and Ring scenarios are another timesink, just as a new continent (or other content) would be if that was added - so, in my view, I'm already paid/paying for access to the editor. In fact, I'm already paying a company (with my subs) to add content that they will further profit from! This I don't mind at all, but paying more to help a company (by creating new content for their subscribers) than for them to help me (by providing me with content) seems a little crazy! Hehe!

If I could create content that could be played without the player having to pay a subscription to a company, then, and only then, would I consider paying more for that editor. I'm not expecting that to happen, of course, since it would be madness for any company that owned Ryzom to do so.

In all seriousness, Ring should have been a 2nd or 3rd expansion. A real expansion should have been rolled out with a LvL 300 zone, new mobs, new textures, and iterms/rewards (use your own definition for reward here) similiar to the Kitin Lair, and maps that would boost the total realm of Ryzom by at least 50%.

Most of us, fanboi's or not, probably would have tossed down $25-35 for a digital download of this new region. If Nevrax really wanted to save the company a free "so-called" expansion called Ring would not have been the answer. Sometimes I wonder how many nitris ballons they got over there in the corperate building. They just keep making the worst decisions in MMO history (yes, rivaling CU or NGE).

I'd probably pay top dollar just for a big sign saying "ring was a total waste of time", but thats about it

The decision to work on the The Ring was, I imagine, a decision to attract a large number of new players with something completely unique to MMORPGs, whilst also giving existing players a genuinely new reason to stay/return. What you suggest would have given a new, allbeit temporary, reason for jaded players to stick around or re-subscribe, while not attracting a single new player. If the current strategy of adding more mainland content (like Outposts) wasn't saving Nevrax, then what reason is there to suppose that more mainland content would have pulled them out of their dire straights?

It was a gamble yes, and it didn't pay off for Nevrax, which is a great shame. In hindsight it can be seen to be a grave error, but perhaps the "safe" alternative was seen as merely delaying an inevitable collapse?
