DP removal...

DP removed = XP earn * Level Used / 10

eg 3000 * 150 / 10 = 45000 DP removed.

It is therefore, in theory, best to use your highest level skill.

Notable exceptions.

Crafting off DP is generally thought of as a bad idea (cost/time to gather mats) makes it expensive.

Basically its best to use the skill that is closest to your highest and gives the fastest and highest XP.

Digging is the most common used method, low risk and steady XP, no team required.

There are a couple of thing that don't help.

I have a decent DSL connection in the US, but my toon will frequently go into what I call stutter step mode. A window pops up and down, over and over, indicating connection problems, my toon moves forward 1/2 step, stops, moves 1/2 step, stops, over and over. This happens frequently and makes the game fairly unplayable.

At least 5 times over the last month, something has gotten messed up in my user interface. I try to load my toon but get stuck in the very last bar forever. The fix has been to remove the save folder. The fix however loses all of my map marker locations, and my window layout.

Both of the above are pretty serious flaws, and leave a rather negative impression of the game.

For the first stutter problem, a lot of MMORPGs use a decoupled destination system. My computer tells the server where I want to go. The server and my computer start going there by our own routes. If doesn't really matter if latency is high because both sides know where the toon is going to end up. This dramatically cuts down on how tightly the server and client have to communicate on everybodies position.

The second issue of the interface not working just needs some old fashioned debugging. Once it happens the problem is reproduced every time, so there is no reason for the problem to still be unfixed.

Sorry to disagree here, but the connection issues you experience might as well stem from your Internet provider and the pathways they are using for overseas-connection. I´ve worked for such a company, I know what bad pathways can do.
Just a thing to stop people from blaming a game for a thing it can´t do anything about and that perfectly works for others.

As for yur UI troubles, well, did you ask the support?
Did you do a Data-Check?

Maybe it helps :)

It is very easy for me to blame the game for the stutter problems since it's the only MMORPG that has the issues. Same ISP, different game. Designing for internet latency is tricky business, especially when you are trying to service customers overseas. Lot's of designers have failed to come up with good solutions. But it will lose you customers when it is persistent.

The support people are the ones that gave me the UI work around.

You can backup your markers when your system isn't in a snit. Might save some work.

Then why do I never experience this? I'm overseas as well.

some times having lots of markers itself can make load in and ingame go slowly.

Same and I'm on the west coast of the US. I do get connection probs from time to time (but that's when everyone else does).

Actually THIS has happened to me and none of the things that the GMs told me to do helped. Oddly, I was able to get on an alt at times. The 1-2 weeks that it happened were annoying...take forever. I went back home one of those weekends (since I was at my school dorms at the time) and got in ryzom just fine. 2-3 days after I got back to my dorms, I was able to get back on my main toon like there was never a problem. This was well over a couple of months ago (maybe about an year? Don't know my memory isn't all that great) and has never occurred again.

Hum, I dunno where the servers are hosted but I can tell you that in Paris, I still get some lag from time to time as well.

Now about the thunder.. well some friends told me they can hear it from time to time but I don't, so I guess there is something wrong with my sound card: time to get a better one (sixpack 5.1 atm)

I dunno if more homins will join, but at last 2 of my friends already made the move since I've started the thread: the game had the same effect, being way more interesting than the "buzz" we got prior.

One nasty thing to remember when you duel though: With a friend we did made few duels, confident in what some ppl told us (you don't get DP in duels).. they just forgot to tell us that you don't get DP as long as you are rezed. After being slaughtered by my friend who happened to be melee without heals, I noticed after a respwn, a little yellow message. So I checked my Info-sys and saw something like "You've been pwned - Your death penalty has increased to +25k" !

loool, needless to say we immediately stopped dueling. :D

Now few questions for you:

- I've read somewhere that there was like a proportion of 3:1 numbers of Karavans Vs Kami. Is this true, if yes: why? how come... hehe, i like this question more and more: so , how come?

Coming from Lineage2, you can be sure that I intend to experience every aspect of this game , which included pvp and if anything, I would prefer to play the smallest faction, since it will mean more occasions to encounter opponents, stronger cohesion, more efforts.. in a sense, more fun.

- Quest availabilities: when I first read some answers related to quest content, the general feeling was that "in the mainland there are no quests at all... (tm)". Then I saw a reply from this guy: http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?p=364012#post364012
[...]There are not any super-story-linked quests like in Silan, but there are hundreds upon hundreds of quests to do. The Encyclopedia quests are speckled through out the standard quests, so unless you have a guide telling you exactly which quest to do, the only way to find them is to do random quests.[...]

Ok, I realize that some true RP might not call these "quests", as they are apparently repetitive and such.. but they also have to understand that in every other MMORPG out there, these are precisely what they call quests too.

So what I understand now is that there are no real RPG quest like in the mainland.. while there are hundreds of MMORPG quest like also.. this is a critical point imo because most newcomers like me do not expect finding pure and well designed RP quests and when we hear "the are no quests in the mainland", we really think that there are absolutely nothing to be given from NPCs.

If also, you compare the number of non pure RP quests with those you find in the other MMORPGs.. then I believe Ryzom must have as much quest as any other, if not more. For example I can tell you that if there are hundred of quests like "go to xx" , then Ryzom has definitely more "quests" than Lineage2. ;)

That's a decisive point some of you should take into consideration when you explain to newcomers that "there are no quests in the mainland": this point truly worried me at first, cause as much as I like pvp, prepare battle, discuss strategy, ect.. I also like to have some quest and read some stuff when I level, the best being able to do both at the same time.

Of course, I'm not even referring here to the Ring system.. because then well it's simple: no other game provide as much Quest as in the Mainland!! Hehe, :p

- This leads to my second question : what about Ring and pvp?
I know that it is not implemented yet, I know also that the devs and the community would like to allow it as long as it goes in the same path as what the game provide.

So let's assume these issues and boundaries will be settle-up: do you know if this function will be enable anytime soon or has it been placed on the side road atm ?

I am not currently interested but I could really enjoy creating few pvp events, the DM being the "arbitre": protect the castle, battle royale, bodyguard journey.. hum :)

Slightly off topic here, but there definetely IS thunder in the realy heavy Storms, at least in Matis. Just last night I purposefully ran out of the city into the storm and listened for a while and there it was.
I tryed to record it but somehow FRAPS didn´t get the sound, I must have messed up something, but I´ll try again ;)

I don´t know why it is you can´t hear it, but I´ll make it may short time quest to make you hear :D :D :D
