Usless NPC's!!!!!
Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
In case the devs argue I'll throw in some support! Cutting some out but not all sounds like a great idea. If Ryzom ever gets its the lag fixed and launches a better ad campaign it'll have a lot more players, imagine how hectic getting through markets where you already have to dodge NPC's would be. If you think the FPS is slow now you're gonna get JACKED later, even with lag fixes!
Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
I liked the NPC population quite much from the start as it made the towns livelier but a reduction would make sense.
What *bothers* me more are the NPC groups that roam the outskirts of Pyros and can be quite a roadblock sometimes. They are a bit to large and spawn too fast in my opinion.

Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
It seems to me that alot of those NPCs would have missions later on, when your factions are higher. If that is so, then they do serve some kind of purpose.
Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
I just hope that those filler NPCs pull their weight when the time comes. When the Kitin invade, they better spend a few moments attacking the otherwise useless NPCs. If the drifting crowd at least acts like decoys then they have some function other than decoration.
Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
All the NPCs that will offer missions have a mission option when you click on them. If you are not high enough to get the missions the screen will just be blank.korin77 wrote:It seems to me that alot of those NPCs would have missions later on, when your factions are higher. Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
Yeah, that's what I was just wondering, too. Did they at least act as "cannon fodder" when the attacks came? If I remember right, from the past event, the NPCs disappeared/reappeared multiple times (that was bizarre on its own), but I wasn't around to see the fighting.daleknd wrote:I just hope that those filler NPCs pull their weight when the time comes. Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
Agreed on this.
I even have the problem of that if I run into Zora with 125 radar range on I crash just past the stables. The game also slows down drastically.
When the game picks up those NPCs will be replaced with players hawking their wares, especially once Zora is a place I want to be more often with less lag and crashing. Other capitol cities are the same.

The number of NPC's outside of the cities need to be trimmed back as well. I was with a group yesterday pulling cloppers at Clopper Hill in Fyros land. Not only did we have a giant herd of buffalo-type creatures parked right on top of us for most of the night, and inumerable flying things constantly buzzing us, but there were roving bands of at least 50 Water Breakers walking back and forth across our pulling path. It was totally insane. Needless to say lag was pretty bad even with a high end machine. I also don't understand why the cloppers make a beeline toward real players while the NPC's can march right through them like they are having a parade - cuts down on the immersion level a bit.

Aye I agree, the purpose of those patrols is supposed to clear the monsters from civilized lands not just wander around and get ignored by the monsters. They need to change it or remove them. Its entirely too easy to accidentally hit them with a AOE spell or circle attack.docsardo wrote:The number of NPC's outside of the cities need to be trimmed back as well. Re: Usless NPC's!!!!!
Second that on the patrols heavily.
The crazy part is watching NPCs in the roots as well. Ignroing all aggro mobs and Kitins. If need be you could even just isolate them to their areas. Tribe NPC Artificial Intelligence is one of the few areas that seems it really needs to be worked on.
Would also be nice if those tribes were a little more defensive of those who have really good fame with them.
