An open Letter to all new Players
Re: An open Letter to all new Players
So I invite you to allow a new player to solo on RARE occasions. As is you say it's only a week, but as a new player it is all I know.
Re: An open Letter to all new Players
a new player who's join date is dec 2005. Its nice you resubbed after the 15 free days, and surely you used those days to see what it will be like after the event we waited more than a year for is over
Re: An open Letter to all new Players
So and now you know that it´s ONLY a week, just like many have said in another thread that you´ve graced with your presencedarkcred wrote:So I invite you to allow a new player to solo on RARE occasions. As is you say it's only a week, but as a new player it is all I know.
And I´ll say again. Buckle up.

Just calm down first. And please stop trolling.
Thank you.

Edit:
9. Ryzom´s hard to solo.
As unfortunate as it may seem to some of you Ryzom is HARD to solo.
But it´s not impossible at all. You just have to put a bit more of an effort in it then in other games.
A very important "Player Skill" here is sneaking.
Being able to sneak past too large aggros is essential.
Also is the ability to judge wich MOB to single out of a Pak or Herd. It IS possible.
Also, learn wich Mobs are agrro and/or social, either by asking or by dying.
You may solo but you have to be up to it. And be prepared for a hard time.
I invite you to rise to the challenge!!

Re: An open Letter to all new Players
Acridiel,
Incredible. Very well stated. I enjoyed reading every last word. It was a long post, but it didn't seem so as I read it because it was entertaining and had many good thoughts!
Admittedly, I tried the game when it first released and quit when the "patch" made the mobs so hard that it was not even funny. I hear an emergency patch went in the next day, but I was long gone by then.
Having tried the game again recently, I have enjoyed my experience on the starter island. The community, as a whole, it awesome. By far, this community has the most considerate and well-meaning folks I've had the pleasure of gaming with.
I didn't realize guides were volunteers. I really enjoyed my bit of roleplay with Dever on Cho last night. He was very patient.
I miss Shiftshade. He left for the Zoraian mainland. He roleplayed constantly. He even drew me out of my non-rp shell.
This game is definitely different. It's certainly enjoyable.

Re: An open Letter to all new Players
Thanks for this insight Acridiel. I have just installed and updated Ryzom this morning and am ready to create my first character. But I am stuck at work >.<
Im really very excited to begin playing as soon as I can. I dont know what to expect when I enter this world of "Atys" as so many have called it, and with an open mind I hope to make this my home. With sword in hand I hope to fight along side many of you in the battles to come.

Re: An open Letter to all new Players
I was re-reading Acridiel's post, and something struck me as humorous. Not in the posting itself or it's content, it was after all extremely well written and thought out. No, it got me to thinking about another MMORPG I've played off and on for the last year and a half. When I was playing it full time, I did some of the quests, but evenutally stopped even picking them up. They were after all mostly of the same variety (kill x mobs...).
Even last night, I signed on (only because my online friends haven't migrated over to Atys yet, but I'm pushing them...) I was running through several cities, noting how many exclamation points (quest indicators) there were still around that I had never bothered to pick up. Instead I went out into the wilderness and killed bandits to collect money, killed beasties to skin them, worked on my leatherworking to sell off.
That's where I found my enjoyment. I suppose others consider it nothing more than grinding, but I wasn't doing it to level up (and I'm still real low in the levels), I was doing it because I could explore, kill things, and make some money while doing so. Great fun for me.
So even though I'm still on the starter island, where quests are given out, I'm looking forward to my migration to the mainland, so I can just enjoy myself.
BTW, exploring is one of my favorite things to do, going into areas where someone of my level has no right to be. I enjoy seeing just how far I can push into these agressive areas using sneaking (and I don't mean any special skills or buffs, but just watching the beasts, picking up the pattern, then slowly working my way through them). Yeah, I die alot, but still great fun...

Re: An open Letter to all new Players
What do you people not understand about the fact that I know Atys is hard, i thrive on hard games, and I can imagine without the invasion, I would be doing splendidly, due to the fact that i can see what mobs are where even if they are surrounded by event bugs. So please stop telling me that my understanding of Atysian life is flawed, it is not flawed at all, and if what you say is correct, this is only the second time they have done something like this......implying that this is NOT the norm, and that I CAN most likely handle myself just fine.....so please, just don't say another thing, you are not helping, I do not want your help, and unless you want to log on and take me somewhere to level, don't you dare tell me that it can be done easily. If it is so easy, then hook me up.....and on a side note, this is not trolling, this is my trying to present my opinion, the first few times I have done so, I was corteous, corgial, and on each ocassion I was given a cliche response of....Team Up, Life on Atys is Hard, If ya try hard enough you can sne3ak to good hunting spots......and I am sorry but that sort of nonsense can drive a sane man madd, now if you would like to see trolling, go elsewhere, because this is the least of what you will find in any community, at least I am not directly insulting anyone, but more insulting the cliche advice that If I never heard again....it just might not be to soon.......acridiel wrote:So and now you know that it´s ONLY a week, just like many have said in another thread that you´ve graced with your presence

Darkcred:
I am sure Acridiel was not trying to be insulting. He took the time to write a long, well thought out letter with lots of fine information, but if you do not want his help you don't have to read it.
Also, you might want to work on your sentence and paragraph structure if you want people to read your posts. Just a suggestion, don't take it the wrong way.
I hope you enjoy your stay on Atys.

Re: An open Letter to all new Players
LoL, I DO take it the wrong way, I am sorry but I could really care less if you are so lazy that your eyes would prefer not to read something without paragraphs and perfect grammer.
Like I said in another post, Go play Grammer Police:Island Adventures. I do not need another english lesson from some stranger over the internet who most likely is sijmply trying to strike a nerve....

Re: An open Letter to all new Players
So you are purposefully taking offense at something I mentioned with good intent? Very well then, it seems that everyone here has tried to be as kind with you as possible and you have turned it all around into an attack on yourself. As such, I will discontinue replying to your posts, but I still wish to say that I hope you can find your way and enjoy Ryzom to it's fullest extent.darkcred wrote:LoL, I DO take it the wrong way
