RPGs are cooperative, not competetive games. This is a huge mistake that most computer based multiplayer RPGs have made, losing sight of the heritage of RPGs and the better aspects of them.
The majority of PvPers, no matter what they say, do not appear to be genuinely interested in 'a challenge' but rather easy victory. The distinction between PvP and PK appears, very much, to be a fiction.
Not everyone likes the same thing, certainly people don't like their game experience disrupted by someone with a chip on their shoulder. If the two aspects can be suitably seperated - consensual - then there's much less problem but ultimately the PvPers and PvErs have very different desires and goals from a game.

lets not turn this thread into yet another PvP flame fest, pretty please!
As i posted in the newcomer board its quite helpful to roll a new character as we have a sparkling newbie island now which will get you up to speed on everything, then you can swap back to your main char when all the knowledge has bubbled back to your conscious thoughts

Your still talking about pvp'ers right ?
Oh and personally I just play to relax have fun and level up, when I want to test my skill against someone I'd load up cs, quake and all that ?
Although 99% of time online its not minds competing its just systems and isp's and anyone with 30 minutes to spare can look up and read every tactic they'd need to know.
And lets be honest ryzom pvp is hardly advanced in its style or implementation. Now stick a card battle game into ryzom

or ryzom chess and I'm there.

All very good responses (and for the record i was not trying to turn this in to a flame fest, I respect any and all opinions, even if i do not agree with them) Anyhow, I have not even tried PvP in ryzom yet, so maybe it is not a good system for the kind of PvP i was looking for in agame, either way I will stay my judgement untill I can have a personal experience with it. In the end though, I am so sick of skilless fighting, and stale, static content, if the NPC in this game can actaully give one a challenge that does not consist of simply the mob having a crap ton of HP or hitting super hard, or if there are non static puzzles, or things to do that will not be exactly the same every time you do it then I can live without PvP, but without those things, PvP is the ONLY thing that can be unpredictable, am I not right? Please enlighten me if I am wrong.

Well I hope you enjoy the pvp system but its not that great for me anyway, whats unpredictable for me however is when I'm going to lag in the middle of anything lol.

lol, okay, you win, Lag definately is a good addition to the unpredictability of a game, one might even contend it is done of purpous in order to make things itneresting..... while the server techs laugh in thier office of course

Seriously though, its been pushed back but it was meant to be a territorial PvP overlay, or a 'bad idea' as it is otherwise known, hence the pushback and rethink.
Its a great idea, each to their own

Well, you've convinced me with your well-reasoned and well presented counterargument. Now I see why taking away more teleports from everybody is a fantastic opportunity, not an appallingly bad mistake and I also see how providing yet more opportunities for one faction to completely dominate the server won't cause any problems for anyone or result in any further loss of Community/PvE subscribers.
Of course, it has been pushed back to maybe the light has been seen.

if you have not felt the rush of running down the road and seeing a player, and then having to decide wether that player is hostile or firend, can I talk them into being nice or will they attack, can I take them? This feeling is un-matched, and no amount of stupid AI will ever grant that, this is the reason I play Online games, if I wanted to roleplay nicely with my friends I would get some good Face to Face D&D time in.
I come online however in order to enjoy the mystery of new poeple, there is no mystery in wondering if some guy will heal you well enough, but there is mystery when you have to wonder wether they will try to attack you, or win if you try to attack them, please do not ruin this extremely important if not vital function of online gaming by depriving yourself from it due to a few bad experiences in past games.
You are describing competition and confrontation..the desire to test your skill at every opportunity. Of course this is the way of a warrior and I not condone or disagree with it, I accept it ..I see myself as more of a politician...someone who enjoys conversation to understand the strengths and weaknesses of those I interact with.
And of course when the time of war arrives we all know that a mighty warrior brings his sword to the battlefield...And a politician fields an army

.
Yes, I do enjoy a challenge ingame
