I agree with Jyudas on thisgrimjim wrote: ... I've seen more people come back and more new people than people leaving for quite some time now.
To me that post says 'Look out! Don't try to popularise or you'll lose what you have!' and that's been a concern for me since the abrupt and sudden introduction of PvP. That Ryzom was chasing the 'popular market' and threatening to lose what it had. I've felt a lot more reassured lately on that score.
Can we play too ?

Ryzom did not have PvP until recently.....Now The majority of Ryzom posts are about PvP (complete with flaming.)
There are crafted only items in Ryzom...Creatures do not drop Rifles and armour....soon there is a Kitin lair with Uber Loot (rare crystals I wonder ?)
Ryzom was a very small and overlooked game that catered to a minority gaming taste, now the start isle is FREE and unlimited.....and the requests/demands for more ISLAND content are starting to surface.
Ryzom used to be called THE SAGA OF RYZOM.
Yes Raynes you are correct, the original post is talking about SWG. Maybe it has nothing to do with (the saga of) RYZOM, Time will reveal all.
edit - and I want to say in 12 months "what is this post to do with Ryzom"

Re: Can we play too ?
Ryzom's had pvp now for nearly 2 years. (It came in soon after release, with pvp regions in pr, etc).mugendo wrote:Ryzom did not have PvP until recently.....Now The majority of Ryzom posts are about PvP (complete with flaming.)
There's only so far that "recently" will stretch.
Re: Can we play too ?
I can only comment on the forum feedback as I am a recent player....You may exchange the wording to " PvP expansion", "PvP new direction"..etc as you wish.akicks wrote:Ryzom's had pvp now for nearly 2 years. (It came in soon after release, with pvp regions in pr, etc).

But this is picking at specifics without appreciating the overall concerns I wish to convey

I'm sorry but you really don't know what you are talking about. The Saga of Ryzom has had PvP in one for or another pretty much since it started. Since launch they have refined and added some content concerning PvP.
There will be NO DROPS in the Kitin Lair. What you have read is wrong (and you might have gotten that from some of use debating about drops, we mispoke). If you actually take the time and read about the Kitin Lair you will read that the items are given by a NPC as a reward for finishing missions. They do not drop off of animals.
You are right, Ryzom is a small and overlooked game catering to a minority gaming taste. That isn't a good thing, in fact it landed them right in bankruptcy.
As for The Saga of Ryzom being changed to simply Ryzom, no one really called it The Saga of Ryzom. Everyone called it simply Ryzom, so why not change the name?
I can tell you exactly what will happen in 12 months. You and many others will still be complaining how they have PvP content. You will still be complaining how the game will be destroyed by uber loot, even though the Kitin Lair will be in the game and the rewards won't do a thing to the economy.
The thing that I often wonder with newer players that complain about changes to the game, is if they fully understand the history of Ryzom and Nevrax. Do you understand the company has been in bankruptcy for sometime? Do you understand that they are working to get out of bankruptcy? Do you understand that the game as was, did not pull enough players to pay the bills? That's the reality. The only way they are going to get more players to the game is to change what they have been doing in some aspects.
Re: Can we play too ?
Having read all of that I think its more likely that you don't know what you're talking about.raynes wrote:I'm sorry but you really don't know what you are talking about. PvP was there in terms of duels and an arena and couple of PR areas but it wasn't an explicit 'part of the game' rather than an afterthought until EP2.
Ryzom haemoraged the most players two times when it fundamentally changed its gameplay.
Patch 1
Episode 2
What's brought people back so far is RoS and R2. I'm waiting to see what the nest throws up but if it does undermine crafters that won't be a good thing.
Ryzom is what it is and will be far better off with reasonable ambitions and fulfilling that potential WELL rather than trying to redesign into something it isn't. Which is what you constantly seem to be demanding it does. Individual appeal and a strong exploitation of a niche will attract loyal players of the 'right' type. Just look at the constant trickle of SWG refugees to see that and there's a lot more out there. Not Millions, but hundreds of thousands.

Re: Can we play too ?
And that is the EXACT same situation Sony was in.raynes wrote:

My concerns are not with the game coding and minor bugs, not even PvP.
My concern is quite clear in the Original post....What extent will the game be 'dumbed down' to cater to the wider audience ?
EDIT - and you are correct regarding my ignorance of the game/nevrax history, and specific details of a 'general point'.

Re: Can we play too ?
x = (wide appeal = dumbed-down game = population increase = community quality decrease = bad game = bad thing)raynes wrote:You are right, Ryzom is a small and overlooked game catering to a minority gaming taste. That isn't a good thing, in fact it landed them right in bankruptcy.
r = (Ryzom = niche game)
x != r
Therefore, if x = (bad thing), r = (good thing).

Re: Can we play too ?
I agree, though Nevrax does need to attract enough players to keep the power on.
