I'd consider all of the channels in their current form, apart from Universe, perfectly alright to RP in.
Around - physical speech and actions
Region - General nanoseed broadcast
Guild - attuned nanoseed rapport (similar with team)
Tells - direct one to one nanoseed message
I agree totaly.

My point is that when someone asks what the Kami and Karavan are all about, telling them to run to the forums doesn't help the game, it hurts it. With the current chat channel policy there is no place where someone can ask non game mechanic help questions.
Acceptable in Universe: How do I add a new skill to my hot bar?
Not acceptable in Universe: What is the difference between the Kami and Karavan?
And for those of you who are argueing that it makes no sense that people can RP with each other all over the globe. It also makes no sense that people can RP with each other across an entire region. It makes no sense that anyone can chat with anyone outside of area chat. Even that does not make sense. Have you ever been able to speak to someone in a normal voice 25m from you?
And Grimjim, chessack you came up with nanoseeds and physic connections respectivly. Both of you made things up or used things in lore to explain stuff to support your opinion. I could very easily say that all homins can comminitcate with each other on the nanoseed level and it would be just as vailid as what you argue. Likewise I could easily argue that all homins can speak to each other on a physic level and it would be just as valid as your arguement.
MMO's need to create a balance of what is beleivable and what is needed for fun. In the area of RP, pvp, and questions relating to them it isn't doing a good job.
Argue all you want, but the fact is that one trial subscriber last night wasn't getting the answers they wanted. I stepped in and talked with them, they decided to subscribe. How many others never subscribed because they were pushed away to the forums instead of players actually helping them? He wasn't the first, nor will be be the last unless something is done to correct the issue.

I've seen those questions posed before, without any real problem.
As far as I'm concerned it would be covered by the remit of the help channel and I've only seen guides step in to stop it if the arguing has gotten out of hand.
If they bring in a universal chat (non help channel) then yes, that could be explained the same way, but current Uni chat? No.

We don't know and neither do you. Argue your point all your want, but you're basing this all off one experience. Mentioning anything with factions in this game always leads to flaming and propoganda (Somehow I doubt this newbie that you helped actually got an unbiased explanation of the karavan from a kami fanatic....). Thats something that universe doesn't need. Simply directing them to lore that they can digest at their own pace is less contraversial. Should there be an in-game system? yes. Should we change universe or the chat rules? no. They're fine the way they are.

And I have contrary firsthand experience.
Something odd must have been going on.
