I would take issue with the....."I was testing the community" statement.

It rankles just a tad.
Is this a subtle move into touching my credibility?
If you doubt it ask Tigane, game master. I was asking this question in the Universal channel from the newbie island. Tigane ended the discussing by warning everyone....

And do you honestly believe anyone would put his guild-friend on the ignore list, just because the make a rude joke? Are you the type of person that goes complaining at an admin whenever someone insults him?

If you cant handle that behaviour try playing a single player game. The reactions from all of you make me wonder, is it really true you havent heard any rudeness? Im sorry but that is something that rankles in my ears, just a tad.

And about the comparison with WoW about the size of the community, Zanthar is right. WoW is such a big name, its a famous game for many reason. If you like it or not, you cannot deny that is has changed the understanding of MMO. So people will join it faster than for example Ryzom.

I wouldn't necessarily say people are questioning your credibility so much as expressing shock that such a thing occurred. I won't be so presumptuous as to say such things haven't/don't/won't happen... but I have personally yet to experience such reprehensible behavior. If my reply in this thread made you feel as though I was calling you disingenuious, then please accept my apology.

If a member of my Guild behaves in such a manner that would put a mark on our Guild's name, I would not put the individual on ignore, I would remove them from the Guild without question. Respect and honor are required from members of Covenant, and treating another player with unprovoked disrespect... especially a new player... will not be tolerated.

I have 6 years of experience in MMORPG's, and no community I have interacted with can compare with my experiences with Ryzom players. I have never felt anything but welcome here. I am sorry to hear you were greeted with the unwarrented blatherings of disrespectful fools. Though, to be fair, I cannot say I approve of questioning people on the location of something to test the value of a community. There is much more to a community than the knowledge of a harvesting resource.

WoW may be the largest and most populated MMO at the moment, but I could rattle off reason after reason why I feel it's no where near the best. I will spare you all my ranting about it, however. :D

1. I dont doubt you, I find it incredulous that in 2 years I have never had an experience like that, as I said ...."I'm not doubting what you say"

2. A guild composed of members like that would be laughed at in Ryzom, believe it or not, guilds will kick out dickheads.

3. Dont know what you are referring to, you are the one complaining about a reaction, I never said I couldn't handle it, I just said I never had a reaction like that, I didn't complain about it, get the ears syringed as you have rankle clog apparently :)

4. I agree.

Well the words that fell werent real nice, but calling them unwarrented blathering and disrespectful fools is a bit much. I really wish i had the names, you might even know a few, as there were about 3 or 4 guys :)
It didnt really hurt me, im used to that in any multiplayer game. Without it i believe people start asking really unnecessary questions like mine....
And yes there is much more than harvesting a resource, i hate that. That's why i asked that question......

And i never said WoW is the best MMO around. Compare it to Command and Conquer or Prince of Persia or Mario or GTA or Simcity. These arent the best, yet they changed something in the gaming world and thats the reason every gamer knows what it is. Same goes for WoW in my opinion.

Im not complaining about a reaction, you obviously misread my post. When i said that people shouldnt complain about bad commmunity's in my very first post, i got the response that this community was flawless. Well, it isnt. My example was not a complaint !
I dont care if people use harsh words, i ignore that type of people. And i have alot of XP doing that, they could make a new skill tree especially for me. And to conclude, i dont need my ears to read your replies....

Oh I dunno... I thought it had a certain sparkle to it. ;)

Seriously though... one of the things that grinds my gears like nobody's business is blatent and unwarrented disrespect. In the world we live in, Ryzom becomes the escape from how people treat each other in RL. It really bothers me to see it bleed over into my escape. :)

Harder/more work to measure ... one would need to measure each section individually as when you go through a portal you are in a new region; if your compass is set to another section the distance is displayed is incorrect. Aeden Aqueous has the main area which branches (via portals) off into 5 other areas.

QFE and I had some words of description for people like this but they are not worth the time and effort to lower myself by degrading them. From what they said they most certainly would have ended up on my ignore list though! ;) And hopefully they will recieve a cold welcome and leave our fair planet for I for one will not even stop to help a person that is rude or disrespectfull.
