As far as the "no minerals" link...you are just going to have to trust me.
The link below goes to a forum thread the references the Q&A article that gave out the "no minerals" proclaimation. It came along as part of the "sand is really sawdust" line.

Sadly, the news article that spawned all of it is no longer available.

A plausible explanation is that there are trace minerals, but not nearly enough to gather in any significant amount, unless it is first proccessed by a biological agent...the lovely denizens of Atys.

But, as it is, we were told "no minerals" and I am obsessing over it to an irrational degree.

The article is still there. You can use the "search" tool on the top right of the site to find any old article, it's quite powerful.

Yeah no minerals is a little sily perhaps but then again don't ask for logic from the french :P

Oh and I'd just like to include this pointles information on minerals..
"Cleavage describes the way a mineral may split apart along various planes. In thin section, cleavage is visible as thin parallel lines across a mineral. "

One thing I've always wanted to know; even if there weren't any minerals when Atys came into existance what about the meteores we see soaring thought the Atysian skies? They could have easily deposited minerals all over our living world or am I to understand that they don't contain minerals either?

or...

Do they burn up so completely there's nothing left to deposit?

...

uhm...

right

Maybe Atys absorbs and distributes them.

And even if there weren't any metals when Atys came into existance, what about all the karavan vessels that have rusted away over the past thousand years? :)
