Needs some better error handling if it's gonna stay. Try testing it on things other than XP.
I view it fine on 3 different W2K machines...

The standard way of bypassing (flash) splash screens is rather simple: instead of typing sitename.com type sitename.com/index.html.....

I think it's cute. It makes me grin everytime I see it, which isn't often because I either go straight to the forums...
www.ryzom.com/forum or straight to the news page.
Oh, and Raynes, do you always have something to complain about hun? Me thinks you are a negative person, I'm sorry for you.

It looks really nice, but reduces the usability of the site for me, because it takes 10 seconds to get to the real homepage, and I have click a link, before I am allowed to read the actual news.
Thats why I use this link
http://www.ryzom.com/home_page?set_language=en to access the site, since Nevrax put the Flash on the main url. If Zahan hadn't mentioned the skip botton on the Flash I would never have noticed it.
Exactly. I bookmarked
forums and visit the main site via the Ryzom logo. Voted "remove it" because flash doesn't work for everyone, is not nice to further processing, and generally an annoyance in my eyes. The animation is cute, but as superfluous as that 5MB stamp sized "movie" on the pre-ring
home_page was.
EDIT:
I could have voted "keep it" as well, as it does not actually keep anyone who doesn't have Flash/Javascript active from visiting the site, so what... that still doesn't make Flash look friendly to me

what current welcome page requires is CSS. without it, you only see bottom row with some icons and misleading and unneccessary text "This page contains flash".

doesnt work on my win 2k machine running Opera, but I always use the home page anyway
( had to find a winXP / IE machine to actually see what the fuss was about .. too trivial to worry about IMHO )

Works fine if I use Firefox (spits), I suspect it's something to do with my IE thinks it doesn't have Flash installed (despite the Macromedia site saying it has).

I use opera as well, and has for ages. I have no probs in win2k or in XP64
Must be some other problem than just Opera?

Works fine on my work machine (Win2k with IE). I voted to keep as well. It's not like it's hard to skip it. Just make links directly to the forums, or main page, or what have you. No one is forced to look at it.
