I have to say i wouldnt like to see this happen as aa persistent system..
But maybe if it were active only to participants of a OP battle?
and the system locks when you leave the battle..
That could kinda be fun..
If you all remember there were ranking boards for Ep2 (which are still viewable afaik) and that didnt really cause too much of a problem because it was all contained within a certain environment where everyone knows they are in combat..
So perpetually ingame.. nope.
If the ranking was only active during OP battles.. Yeah i'd be down with that

not in favour of it.. and there were inequities in the honour point system in Ep2 that should be looked at before anything is done with that again, too
eg .. team healer, struggling to keep everyones hp/sap up.. gets nothing while the nuker is two-shotting diggers.., afflictionist holding off someone until the damagedealers get to them...
the reward systems focus on kills, is maybe ok for one-on-one duels but becomes less valid with teams and is pretty much out the window with multi-team battles. this is also true in PvE xp.

Thats a good point actually...
Healers and the like need a way of gaining points too.. somthing sorely missed in Ep2..

I CPed for over 120 desert forage levels, 2 weeks @ 6+ hours a day.
I got 53 honour points _total_ cos Rundll let me kill her near the end with my weenie lvl 51 2h melee.
The rewards were (and still are I believe) non-transferable, so my careplannee couldnt even repay me. An evend shield/casterpants would be quite nice... or maybe an event pick...
Good thing I was getting paid for it really

I still think this would be a cool thing *IF* implemented in the right setting.
Say, the ONLY way to get them was IF YOU ARE PVP tagged? You wouldnt get squat for killing a digger. Unless the person was pvp tagged.
That way it would still be something for those that WANTED it, without giving unfair advantages.
Just my 2 cent.

like Karavan crusher, Kami sentinal or whatever

Too easily exploitable... I could kill you all day long and get a points... when really all I did was exploit/farm you. It wouldn't make me a better PvPer, just someone better at farming PvP points by picking easy targets.
The formulations needed to prevent this would be more effort than needed for something that doesn't fit this game. In these type scenario's it's rare when the top folks actually risk their standing by fighting each other and instead choose ratio by killing easier fodder.

There are ways to avoid it.
Like i said, the higher ratio *I* have the more you will get for killing me.
But say that they implement a time limit from the time you kill me the first time, to you can get more.
In SWG they solved that fine when it came to pvp rating. BUT, they didnt reward a high pvp rating with anything.

Please god no. I left Ryzom some time ago to go play a game that has a heavy PvP rank system. All it ends up as is people PvP grinding themselves into the ground. I came back to get away from all that.
Trying to dig in Nexus or PR would become a nightmare.

On MMORPG.com there's a nice article about MMO design that has an example about a situation similar to what you are proposing. I believe it was in UO (too lazy to look it up...) It was about a use based skill system. In the example you could get a higher resistance again fall damage by.....falling so what people did was run up a cliff, jump off, take fall dmg, heal, run back up the cliff, jump off,....etc, etc, ect....
A PvP ranking system will encourage those with fragile ego's to grind pk's just so they can wear a neat lil title; it's not something that belongs in Ryzom.
on a side note tiger: guildwars has some really nice PvP titles...
