...to add to that timing question, since that really is one of the big, large, no - enormous advantages here:
You simply won't be able to exactly tell how long that fight might last, sometimes you won't even be able to tell if you're going to win. You might have an idea about how long it should last, but there's so many different options on both sides that no "Level XY" fighter is the same as the other. Individual actions, individual equipment, individual individual levels (*g* I like that one...), individual use of skillpoints, individual tactics, melee or magic or both...
And then, ofc, there is the beast of level XY you're looking to fight... carnivore or herbivore, kitin or not, dodge or parry, armored vs. slash, smash or pierce, resistance vs. which kind of magic, ...

Unless you're fairly overpowering a mob, better even that mob and a few of his buddies at the same time, you'd hardly be able to really tell how a SvE (Solo vs. Environment) encounter will end exactly. Isn't that sweet? :D

Actually if you know what & where to fight, soloing is dead easy in Ryzom.
(For exemple at melee 140 - 160 you can chain kill Timaries with hardly any downtime , getting 2k - 3k a kill.)

I think Ryzom rocks for this :)
Grouping is great, but having the option to solo for testing your gear/stanzas or when your buddies are offline is perfect.

On another hand, to fight bosses ( about your level )i'd say you need at least a small group

Sounds like you have a much higher primary level than the melee you are using, you've an event shield, and/or that experience value is doubled by catalysts? Excuse me if I am wrong, just that a 3k kill is usually 20 levels over your own, iirc.

Hi Jamela

there are not only purple Timaris, you know the ones in Flaming Forrest, you know, but there are some red Timaris too. They should work fine for 2-3k at level 140-160 ;)

There are also orange Timaris in HoP ;)

Edit: or is that only when Timkya is up??

You misunderstood, Trini. I meant to point out that soloing a mob 20 levels over your own top level is not likely to allow chain pulling and 3k exp each and no downtime to recover between fights. It's much more likely to lead to DP and it's misleading to tell someone new that they can expect to do so if they look around for the right mobs. I should have made it clearer, sorry. Posted too early in the morning :p

HoP timmies are my regular workout too, Xera :)

Not really, my foraging/crafting was slightly higher, so small benefits from higher hp jewels.

And yes, was making 2k-3k is without cats.
I used my self crafted 2h Axes, ( full wear out weapon stanzas as i craft tons of axes ) , self crafted high parry/protection Heavy armor.

From about melee level 125 till 150, i can confirm i was chain killing Nettled & Vicious Timaris near Thesos , with hardly any downtime.

This is to answer your doubts, not bragging, and also to make clear to new players that soloing is an option in Ryzom ;)

Thanks, tried something similar myself and either had to sit and wait ages for almost full HP regen after a quick fight or took ages to finish the timmie off. Must be something for me to look into, like a fine compromise :)

csweeden wrote:I come from eq1 where fights/kills took a bit of time. Im not a big fan of killing 10mobs per minute. So how is the fight time?

... Do you need to have a healer in group, along with tank?
To get back to the original questions. As others have posted, the length of an individual fight can vary. It's been 4 years since I've messed with EQ1, but the pace of fights seems to be a little more frantic. The big difference is between fights. There's no "vision" that says you must sit between fights to regen and chat. In Ryzom all the bars can be filled up for less than the cost of a spell. If everyone survives, the group can be ready for the next pull after a few casts. Near wipeouts don't take much longer.

In Ryzom, everyone is a healer to some extent. There's never a wait to find a healer although sometimes it takes a couple minutes to persuade someone to take a healing role. In 2-3 homin groups, you can get buy with no one working on healing and only heal between fights.
