Yes if you where to get enough lvls in one tree to clear everything you can buy from NPC trainers you still gain SP, you can build up 1,000s with relative ease, in time

Okay, so the original "Fight, Magic, Harvest, Craft" trees branch out into more specific trees later? *still a bit confused*

hehe, yes.
Magic for example splits into offensive and defensive magics at lvl 21. Then at 51 offensive magic becomes offensive afflictiton or elemental. Defensive becomes healing or defensive affliction. Those are all the splits for magic, there are 4 branches to go to 250.
There are 5 harvest branches, based on the 5 terrain types.
There are many (10+ each) fight and craft branches, that split everywhere from 21-151

As I am playing this game in the trial island I am leveling up in all the skills, and realizing how each skill compliments the others - when your sap is low you can start fighting, when your hp is low you can do some harvesting, when your bag is full you can do some crafting - and I enjoy switching from one thing to the other, but doesn't this make all of the characters essentially the same, save for outward appearences?
I know things branch off and diversify as the levels increase, but are there really enough options to make each character very different from any other character to any dramatic degree? One guy is 125/75/75/50 and another guy is 50/75/77/125 (ok I know it branches off into more than four but you get the idea).
I like the system and enjoy the game. I think if there are far more choices offerred than you can possibly pursue with one character it gets more interesting - maybe that is already the case as I am only in the trial....
btw: My name is Gloweye in the game say hi if you want ; )

I think it's definitely going to get more than 1 character can do.
The sheer number of different possible masteries is going to make different characters have to focus on different things. Can you imagine how much work it would take to become a master swordsmith, a master pikesmith AND a master armorsmith?
I mean, I don't know how many branches there are, but if it's broken down into 4 branches at 21, and it branches again at 51, that's a lot of branches.
And THAT'S just crafting! *boggle*
In short (not that I ever am), it looks like MANY hours of fun ahead =D
