Yeah I already got a great rifle because a very kind player made me one (QL40). But compared to magic and melee which I used on the starter island, ranged just seems a bit unfinished
And I couldn't help wondering if there is a deeper reason it wasn't available on the starter island.
But I'll give it a shot of course
and see how it plays out. I enjoy the crafting a lot, so I want to make my own ammo. I would just like ranged to be a tad more interresting in terms of stanzas, animation etc. And honestly the range for a rifle is short. I could throw a rock that far

I think the reason Ranged wasnt included on the starter isle was its not a pickup and go skill. With mellee or magery all you need is a stick or your amps and your set to go, With Ranged you really have to work the skill plus digging and crafting at the same time which may be offputting for some.
Edit: I know its not rifle but get somone to show you the launcher animation, its pretty awesome

Yeah have seen the launcher, it looks good, but I want to use a rifle
. But the animations are important. I like the way SWG handles shooting and running for instance, that's pretty smooth (i'm not a fan of SWG no
). Ryzom is a great game I just feel it's a shame that ranged combat isn't quite... well... done. I hope the developers consider revamping ranged combat in the future. Not so much damage and such if you guys say it gets better. More the feel og ranged combat, the animations and the rifle range.

We also need to remember that this is a "no metals" bronze-age kinda lack of technology world. There is no "gun powder", I imagine the projectiles are propelled by compressed air (especially after watching the Matis Rifle firing animation), so ranges would be severly limited. As it is, the ranges are comprable to various magics, with the launcher having a range of 60M (longer than any spell caster).
A Winchester Model 70 it ain't!

I got this huge "living something rifle" yesterday... and the range didn't seem to compare to my spell range at all. But spell casters have roots, so that helps with the range. But I may have to give it another go and see how far I can hit.

The powerful thing about range weapons is firing on the move. The autolauncher does over 1100 damage per target at q250, thats comparable to a melee skill, and you can use it on the move. Theres also the bonus to range over melee. The problem is the lack of ammo you can hold.

I have heard of the auto-launcher... but I want a rifle not a bazooka

Auto-launcher is the machine gun, launcher is the bazooka

How much ammo can one hold at a time?

From other posts I've seen max speed on pistols is 30 and rifles is 24.
Highest speed on either type of launcher I've seen is 10 or so.
Maybe you can explain why you consider the auto-launcher a machine gun.
