Would you like a "universe"-like open chat channel?

I see why players would not want an excess of (unpoliced) chats, but one honest question, in general terms, if you can disable it with a single click, and keep things "as is" now at least for you, why not?, no need to keep up with it. -- not trolling, but trying to see the drawbacks -- if a player does not want it, why prevent other players from having it, if they want it?

I would know it's there and would be temped to read it.

I would love to see it, but worry it could get _massively_ spammy as server population grows. Particularly with players on the starter isle "LFG" and "WLTB/WLTS".

Yep. "Universe" is wasting my time and attention, distracting me from the tasks at hand and keeping me from immersing as was possible before. Of course I want to help the new players, and of course there might be that tiny bit of information I have been looking for for such a long time...

the problem is at present universe gets taken over on a regular basis by a bunch of idiots who feel the need to piss everyone off by insulting/swearing/generally acting like they are 10, i guess they got a few minutes unsupervised while parents are making them some hot milk or something. i could see a free for all chat ruined by a vocal minority..

although a partial solution would indeed be to exclude RoS from it. and no thats not elitist just a fact of the current demographic

I would like that channel renamed to "Help", don't care personally if another Universe type channel is added as long as it can be disabled.

The most important channels needed are channels for the Attack/Defend teams for OP battles. We know they can be instanced in some sort similar to the way faction channel is now (and based on the old live trivia contest). This is actually needed, unlike the others to improve gameplay.

Horizons had a global Marketplace channel, and sure it was chatty. I liked it, especially since so many zones there were lonely and quiet, similar to here (especially Zorai area). You had a choice to join it or not, so it wasn't a nuisance. For lowbies who aren't a certain faction (I didnt even know that choosing a faction opened a new channel 'til this thread!) it would make the beginning time otherwise spent in silence, much more friendly.

Personally, I like having that kind of ability to talk and meet new folks from all over the server. I think it adds a great deal to the community. Those that don't like random conversations going on can always leave it off.

If such a channel was created, I'd instantly turn it off and leave it off, I'm seriously considering doing the same for universe as the policing seems to be somewhat slack, which is a shame because I like to help people now and again but the WoW style ranting that keeps appearing is immensley irritating.

If I want to chat I can do it in guild chat or tells which is perfectly adequate

If this chat is to be, it would be best to leave the noob area out of it. They have their chat to get help and the new universe chat would have a lot less WoW type spam in it.

A general universal channel is a good idea, but only if there is an option to switch it off.
